The National Wellness Centre launched its first Wellness Wednesday session for the civil service on 5th November 2025 at the National Gymnasium in Suva, promoting physical activity and mental wellbeing through Goju Ryu Karate. This was the initiative of the Head of Wellness, Dr Devina Nand.
Led by certified instructors, participants engaged in warm ups and warm downs, and basic karate movements to enhance balance, focus, and fitness. The initiative aligns with the National Wellness Strategic Plan 2024–2030 and aims to foster a culture of health, teamwork, and NCD prevention across government workplaces. Wellness Wednesdays will continue regularly, with quarterly evaluations and cross-sector collaboration to build a healthier, more productive Fiji.
The Wellness Wednesday programme will be a continuum activity, coordinated by the National Wellness Centre with quarterly evaluations and ongoing monitoring. The initiative aims to:
1. Integrate regular physical activity into the public sector work culture.
2. Strengthen teamwork, discipline, and resilience among civil servants.
3. Promote awareness of noncommunicable disease (NCD) prevention through active lifestyles.
4. Enhance mental wellness and stress management in the workplace.
Venue support and refreshments were kindly provided by the National Wellness Centre. The National Wellness Centre of the Ministry of Health & Medical Services - Fiji expresses gratitude to all participating ministries and partners and looks forward to scaling up as part of Fiji’s broader Wellness for All movement
