Yesterday, our Speech Department facilitated a Professional Development session for the Multidisciplinary Team, focusing on effective communication strategies to support better client outcomes.

OWL Strategy (Observe, Wait, Listen)
Clinicians were reminded to slow down interactions by observing clients’ interests, waiting to allow processing time, and listening to all communication attempts. This approach reduces pressure and encourages meaningful, client-led communication.

4S Strategy (Say less, Stress key words, Show, and Speak slowly)
The 4S strategy promotes clear and supportive communication by simplifying language, highlighting important words, using visual or gestural cues, and slowing speech to improve understanding.

Language Modelling (Labeling. Parallel Talking, Self Talking, Expansion)
Clinicians were trained on modelling appropriate language by providing clear, simple examples of words and sentences during interactions. This supports language development by showing clients how language is used in natural, functional contexts.

The session refreshed clinicians on practical, evidence-based approaches that can be integrated into everyday service delivery to enhance communication and promote quality care.

Welcome Back, Team FHO!

Today marks our first day back together for the new year, and it was wonderful to reconnect as the Frank Hilton Organization family. We gathered to share our personal and professional goals for the year ahead—each story reminding us of the passion, purpose, and heart that drive the work we do for children and families in Fiji.

We enjoyed a warm morning tea, with everyone bringing a plate and sharing not just food, but the stories of their holiday break. It was a beautiful moment of laughter, reflection, and renewed energy.

As we step into the new year, we look forward to supporting one another, growing together, and continuing to make a difference through the work we do every day.

Looking for a playful way to boost your child’s skills at home? Try this simple toy that brings both sound and visual excitement!
Material
3 plastic bottle
Some rice
Tape & a cutter
How to make it
Cut 2 bottles, dry them, and add rice.
Tape them together.
Make a hole in the 3rd bottle, slide the rice-filled bottles inside, and secure with tape.

And just like that—you’ve got a toy that helps with neck strengthening, visual tracking, and reaching forward. Plus, it’s fun to shake and watch.

Madam Minister Sashi Kiran quietly stopped by unannounced, to donate items to the Hilton Home... no fanfare, no cameras or media.. just heart❤️

It was a powerful reminder that humility and action speak louder than words. Long before public office, she walked the path as a fellow development practitioner, and today she is a great example that the spirit of service doesn’t disappear with a new title.
