Unfortunately the Crawley lads had to cut there week short . There trip seems to be cursed with lots of issues. Unfortunately kieron who booked the trip had to pull out and Dan stepped in to drive them here.
Unfortunately for some reason they didn't follow the directions I emailed them and paid over 60 euros in tolls as the sat nav took them through the new tunnel under paris which is 30 euro alone. Not what you need when your paying extremely high fuel prices to.
They arrived and drew for pegs and set up as I started there dinner after ringing the dinner bell only 3 turned up to eat I went to see Ben in peg 3 and he said he'd needed a bit of space as he had trouble at home. Then after a quite night dan in peg 4 took ill with Nora virus with sickness and diarrhoea and didn't fish for 48hrs Then Ben was sick aswell . The 2 younger lads continued to fish bit for no reward in pegs 1 and 3 which was puzzling as we had hot days and no frosts at night and ive of expected the fish to move to the shallower water. Poor josh had also dropped his phone and struggled to contact his partner and young child. I tried to give him a old phone but it wouldn't charge properly so they headed out to find a new one. Unfortunately he had no travel insurance either so the phone he broke when it dropped from his pocket can't be replaced through insurance.
I think the heat was getting to them a bit and they certainly liked to smoke the w**d as I was down wind and the smell of skunk outside the house was overwhelming at times.
They had a couple of days out by the river and then to lake chambon when Ben felt better .
Unfortunately the fish still weren't playing ball and moral was down and in the heat tempers can get short. Without going into detail there was a falling out and Dan was packing up at breakfast and preparing to go home alone . Its unfortunate when freinds fallout and I tried to calm things down . I asked josh how the him Lewis and Ben would get home if dan left. He said theyd fly . I pointed out that it was the end of the easter holidays and school holidays were over this weekend so flights would be either full.or bloody expensive. I checked my Ryanair appand Saturday flight was full to stanstead and Fridays flight came in at over £250 with a 20k luggage allowance.
I said they'd be better trying to speak with dan and sorting things out after all there grown men. Eventually thankfully things calmed down after a apology but I think they decided between them that they'd head home early as some fish were thrashing the margins .
Lewis lost a couple in.peg 3 Tuesday night but for some reason they were not feeding as I thought they would in the warm weather.
Its been really strange behaviour from the fish showing mainly at night for a few hours after dark . We had a big downpour a few days before the lads arrived and it dropped to 3° Thursday night but then it was glorious and temperatures have hit 27° everyday this week . That's why I thought they would be up infront of the house in the shallows but there not most the fish I've seen ,seemed to held up in peg 4 water and when I went over this morning they're were a few smaller residents pairing up and thrashing the margins. Unbelievable its the start of April for gods sake.
The fish have got me baffled in there behaviour I dont think for a minute they can be holding eggs in quantity. Is the high pressure the issue. Or have the majority not woken from the winter slumber . Its always been a slow start on here but usually the reason is freezing cold nights we've had -6• in previosly very odd. I have a free week next week so will stick my rods out to see if there feeding but very little bubbling going on. They're not showing that much in the corner by the house either where they continually show as a rule of thumb.
We have some regular lads on next from Liverpool so we will see how they get on, they usually do ok to be fair.
Ive been to see Paul young this afternoon who's fishing granite lake, less than 30km south of here hes struggling on there too. With no fished banked upto now and one lost very strange I thought the mild winter they would kicked in early..
Hopefully the lads are home safe now and feeling better I think the 2 young lads were gutted to leave early. Cheers Graham foxpool.
