Unfortunately the Crawley lads had to cut there week short . There trip seems to be cursed with lots of issues. Unfortunately kieron who booked the trip had to pull out and Dan stepped in to drive them here.
Unfortunately for some reason they didn't follow the directions I emailed them and paid over 60 euros in tolls as the sat nav took them through the new tunnel under paris which is 30 euro alone. Not what you need when your paying extremely high fuel prices to.
They arrived and drew for pegs and set up as I started there dinner after ringing the dinner bell only 3 turned up to eat I went to see Ben in peg 3 and he said he'd needed a bit of space as he had trouble at home. Then after a quite night dan in peg 4 took ill with Nora virus with sickness and diarrhoea and didn't fish for 48hrs Then Ben was sick aswell . The 2 younger lads continued to fish bit for no reward in pegs 1 and 3 which was puzzling as we had hot days and no frosts at night and ive of expected the fish to move to the shallower water. Poor josh had also dropped his phone and struggled to contact his partner and young child. I tried to give him a old phone but it wouldn't charge properly so they headed out to find a new one. Unfortunately he had no travel insurance either so the phone he broke when it dropped from his pocket can't be replaced through insurance.
I think the heat was getting to them a bit and they certainly liked to smoke the w**d as I was down wind and the smell of skunk outside the house was overwhelming at times.
They had a couple of days out by the river and then to lake chambon when Ben felt better .
Unfortunately the fish still weren't playing ball and moral was down and in the heat tempers can get short. Without going into detail there was a falling out and Dan was packing up at breakfast and preparing to go home alone . Its unfortunate when freinds fallout and I tried to calm things down . I asked josh how the him Lewis and Ben would get home if dan left. He said theyd fly . I pointed out that it was the end of the easter holidays and school holidays were over this weekend so flights would be either full.or bloody expensive. I checked my Ryanair appand Saturday flight was full to stanstead and Fridays flight came in at over £250 with a 20k luggage allowance.
I said they'd be better trying to speak with dan and sorting things out after all there grown men. Eventually thankfully things calmed down after a apology but I think they decided between them that they'd head home early as some fish were thrashing the margins .
Lewis lost a couple in.peg 3 Tuesday night but for some reason they were not feeding as I thought they would in the warm weather.
Its been really strange behaviour from the fish showing mainly at night for a few hours after dark . We had a big downpour a few days before the lads arrived and it dropped to 3° Thursday night but then it was glorious and temperatures have hit 27° everyday this week . That's why I thought they would be up infront of the house in the shallows but there not most the fish I've seen ,seemed to held up in peg 4 water and when I went over this morning they're were a few smaller residents pairing up and thrashing the margins. Unbelievable its the start of April for gods sake.
The fish have got me baffled in there behaviour I dont think for a minute they can be holding eggs in quantity. Is the high pressure the issue. Or have the majority not woken from the winter slumber . Its always been a slow start on here but usually the reason is freezing cold nights we've had -6• in previosly very odd. I have a free week next week so will stick my rods out to see if there feeding but very little bubbling going on. They're not showing that much in the corner by the house either where they continually show as a rule of thumb.
We have some regular lads on next from Liverpool so we will see how they get on, they usually do ok to be fair.
Ive been to see Paul young this afternoon who's fishing granite lake, less than 30km south of here hes struggling on there too. With no fished banked upto now and one lost very strange I thought the mild winter they would kicked in early..
Hopefully the lads are home safe now and feeling better I think the 2 young lads were gutted to leave early. Cheers Graham foxpool.

The gates are open on the 2026 season , and the lads arrived to a beautiful day with temperatures tipping 20° this afternoon. We had a cool night Wednesday 3° after heavy rain Tuesday which has knocked the fish down.
To say the lads are buzzing would be a understatement but they had a long drive from Crawley leaving at.midnight and arriving just before midday. So there shattered now.
A few fish cruising under the surface as the sun shone but not much crashing or showing atm. After drawing for swims they nipped to lidl before setting up before dinner was served.
Temperatures will drop tonight under the clear sky but were heading for a few days of hot sunshine which will help get them moving hopefully.
The 2 younger lads in pegs 1 and 3 are using the baitboat whilst the other.2 are spodding. It will be interesting to see how they get on.
The newly refurbished baitboats are brilliant they've been converted to digital so no aerial on them now and they have all got new handsets, which also don't have aerials they've also been converted to self priming so no.more bending down and priming them in the water . The handset just have normal AA batteries.
They left hand controllers operating the hoppers ,as before but now they open Separately so you can't drop both hoppers at once. Its cost me £2000 to have them upgraded but they should be more reliable now and easier to use. Im going to buy a plastic wheelbarrow to transport them around the lake as it cost £225: to split and reseal the boats so if the handle breaks its 25 for a new handle plus £225:to repair in total £250 so I just want to prolong the life of the handles so a barrow should help by transporting them to the swims and cabin for charging we also have a couple of solar panels to charge on the swim.
Hopefully the next post is one of the lads holding a lump . Have a great bank holiday weekend everyone. Thanks Graham foxpool.

Just a quick follow up on this morning's post . Like Jimmy said in his comments total were selling there's at 2.09 euros where I filled up . Thats apparently is why they limited it 25 litres .
I went for gas bottles this morning and was surprised that the price has gone down . Why I was there there was a tanker delivery at the inter mache and no ques like at the total. I then went to pick the bait order from down near limoges and there was plenty of fuel Andy said around him. But i'm going to air on the side of caution and keep my tank full for now why those 2 di*****ds are in cahoots bombing everyone for the hell of it. No doubt there probably major shareholders in shell oil . Stay safe all.

Thanks to that di****ad Trump, fuel costs are going through the roof. And there's now a shortage of fuel around france . I filled up yesterday thankfully but they only let people have 25 litres each.
If you are coming by car try to make sure you are full before you get on the ferry and if you pass a fuel station with fuel keep it topped up on route .
Also its important you have travel insurance for your trip the amuut of guys ive had on the lake over the last few years without it is crazy.. if you take ill in france thst eu card heath card ain't worth s**t to you as you'll have to pay for treatment firstly and that could cost you ten of thousand if you need heart surgery.
Its clear now if this crisis goes on the harder fuel will get to hold of so the airlines might struggle and have to cancel flights meaning your trip being cancelled and you being out of pocket . If you have travel insurance you can claim that back if not you can't.
As most of you know covid struck shortly after I purchased the lake and I lost a small fortune around 45k. It took me years to recover financially and set me back years on what I wanted to do with lakes , only last October did I have the funds to digout Chad's pool.
So if you can't get here please dont expect a refund its out of our control on how you get here and im not going to put myself through that again. So make sure you have travel insurance least then I can send you email saying you can't get here and you week was paid for then you can claim your costs back..most travel insurance are less than £100 a year or £35 a trip so its nothing on the larger scale of things .some you can get through your bank like me.
Hopefully It doesn't come that and this conflict is over soon. If only that kid on the roof was a couple of inches to the right we wouldn't of had this s**t. 😁😁.
Were paying anything from €2.10 to $2.90 on the services for diesel. One thing's for sure they won't come down as quick as they went up. Take care . Thanks Graham foxpool.

Im back in the UK for a few days to collect 130k of bait from mick at mb baits . Andy has been on from union jack baits to let me know my orders ready for collection when im back in France monday.
Ive ordered 8 new xl cp tech slings off solar tackle and im hoping they'll be delivered today. These are huge over 4ft wide and solar have always been top quality in everything they produce.
Not the cheapest gear but when it comes to fish care you all know I won't scrimp and always put the fish care first. We had a sling strap snap last year when a big forty flapped in the sling luckily dave followed the fish handling sheet and weighed it over the cradle full of water. Even though they were all brand new at the start of the season. I think the straps were defective material.
Unfortunately rig marole haven't come back to me on the order i put in which is disappointing as they've always been bang on in the past. But they have been busy with the shows.
I should of fetched the trailer back with me as ive got nowhere near enough space in my car . I just ordered 3 pieces of 6mm acrylic perspex to replace the broken glass on the diggers. Plus ive got 3 baitboats to collect from my brothers on the way the way back ,the omc order ,bacon ,cheese 3 boxes of mushy peas curry sauces. 3 x 20l drums of oil my tools and a suitcase ,fabseal , w**dkiller a service kit for my mower a router jig to fit new worktop in the cabin refurbishment, self raising flour for silve ,2 sllr cameras 2 new bivvy tables a spare wheel for the trailer my laptop a duvet and pillows 4 rods 130 k of bollies 60 pot of pop ups ,waftas and glugs. Think I need a van 🤔.
Temperature had dropped this week with some heavy winds prior to leaving Foxpool France and were due some wet stuff over the weekend . March has been good to us and spring felt more like summer most days .
When im back monday I'll get the tackle out of storage and set up the bivvies hopefully get a cut on the grass and give the cabin a goid clean after being dormant for 5 months.
Im hoping to drain the stockpond next week so the lads on the first week can help me net it and move the fish over to Chad's pool .
I want to lime it first as I didn't get chance after the digout as I had to return to the uk for my mates funeral.
A busy time with lots of travelling but really looking forward to welcoming kieren and the lads on opening week next Saturday hopefully the frosty nights dont reappear and the temperatures stay mid to high teens to get them off to a flyer.
Ill chuck a few kilo of bollies out to get them interested in the little round balls again but thats all there get this week in the main lake.
A few fish i'm hoping to see banked that should be over forty now is blackspot and the fully scaled both last out at 39lb .
The big mirror wasn't caught last year last out at 53lb and the leather should be pushing 50lb this year.

The One more cast order has just arrived so if you need some terminal tackle or forget to pack something we have a end tackle wall onsite now .
Big thanks too kieran at omc for allowing us to set up a trade account and we look forward to working with them in the future supplying our anglers with bits and bobs .
I'm not familiar with onc gear and as I don't fish much nowadays, but I have to say the presentation is first class and obviously a lot of thought has gone into product design.
Im always trying to improve the business and after introducing sleeping bag hire last year which took off bigger than̈ expected. This is another piece in the jigsaw.
We now have hooks , leads ,ready made hooklinks with tubing putty tail rubbers and lead clips pva bags putty ,scissors baiting needles. Unfortunately we won't be stocking the twig system as its not allowed.. and the locking lead clips will need the pin releasing to conform with the rule that all swivels must pull freec of the clip or inljne lead easìly.
You wouldn't believe there's well over £1000; worth of bits and bobs in this small box. All tackle will be sold at rrp in euros that they have supplied.
When the rig marole order.lands next week it should go a long way to filling the smartwall panels in put up last year. I post a picture when I have it stocked up.
Fox are supplying us with 46 spare mesh for the nets this week and hopefully solar are supplying us with 8 new xl weigh slings . Im skint now .
A cracking day in france today summer has come early this year which will help get the fish active for the lads out opening week a fortnight today.

Just a quick one boys. Mark at rig marole emailed me yesterday that he has no tubing after the carp shows in stock, for my order and a minimum of 3 weeks before hes restocked. So if you can get yours in the uk before you come until I get hold of some. Hopefully by mid April when we will have hopefully re stocked.
You all know how highly I endorse this tubing its easy to thread and gives you terrific line lay similar to leadcore and obviously safe. Also dont buy the one with the deaf clips where the swivel won't pull out of the lead clip if your buying it just by the tubing only in sandy/gravel to match the lake bed. REMEMBER its tubing only on here no leadcore or safe zone leaders allowed.
REMEMBER ALL SWIVELS MUST PULL FREE OF THE LEAD OR CLIP EASILY TO ALLOW THE FISH TO LOSE THE TERMINAL TACKLE IF YOU SNAP OFF. RIG CHECKS ARE MADE BEFORE YOU CAST OUT AND DURING YOUR STAY.
I WILL BE CHECKING RIGS REGULARLY THROUGHOUT YOUR STAY AS FAR TO MANY FISH WERE LOST LAST YEAR RESULTING IN FISH TOWING LEADS.
THANKS GRAHAM.
I WILL LET YOU KNOW WHEN WE HAVE FRESH STOCK IN .

Looks like Andy has started the rollers going and bollie production is going full steam ahead . Ive got our order in for the 1st week in April as hes a busy boy sending bollies all over france to lake owners. Fresh high quality baits made here in France.

Things are starting to go green now as spring is on its way the trees and bushes are starting to leaf up . We've had 10 dry days now the overhanging willows are looking great again. I think if the mild weather continues we may have a early start to spawning but there's still plenty of water washing through the lake which will help keep water temperature down and that's probably why the fish aren't overly active at the moment. Only a tad over 3 weeks now until we open its not going to be as busy as last year so hopefully the fishing improves as the pressure definitely got to them the back end of the season last year.
Im.dusting off the frying pan now and putting fresh oil in the fryers ready for resuming my catering career . 😁.
Im hoping to switch the sockets in the cabin over to uk sockets so you dont have to bring adapters but we do have a few adapters in there. Im hoping to give the cabin a re vamp at the end of the season making it more disability friendly as when trev was here we struggled getting his wheelchair though the doors. Want to put a better kitchen in aswell with worktops rather than that big table. So thats probably what we will do on the end of season work party. If you fancy it steve. 😁. I fetch my router over .

After the wettest start to the year, the last few days have been glorious sunshine with 21 ° degrees in February. Crazy days. We open up 5th April this year hopefully march is a lot dryer than January & February .
I've received the one more cast stock list so over the next few days i will go through that to stock up on end tackle for the new tackle wall and ill put a order in to rig marole for the free fall tubing and hooks lead clips ect.
Guys out in may & june I will be chasing up your balance shortly as its due 12 weeks before your trip.
I will have forked out over £5000 in the last month on baitboats ,bait , pellets new slings, end tackle wall food. . Don't buy a lake guys you'll never be rich. Nice view though. Going need a bigger truck to fetch it all over.

Wet wet wet. A unbelievable amount of rain over the last 2 weeks has most french lakes flooded out and were no exception. With the spillway struggling to shift what's coming in at the same rate it goes out. I have jacked the spillway up so the lake is at the maximum depth before we start with the hot weather in may , but I've had to take the board out to drop it down as the front of the pegs and paths are flooded as we've had over a foot of rainfall in a 10 day period. Ive never known a winter so wet as this in the 8 years since I took over.
Hopefully with spring around the corner now, the rain diminishes and we get some warm winds to dry the banks out.
Better news though both solar tackle and one more cast have got back to me and i'm in the process of setting up accounts with both companies. So all being well we will have the new slings in place for the start of the season. And the end tackle wall will be full of goodies for you to top up your end tackle if you want to save space in your luggage or need anything whilst your here .
We will have everything from hooks, leads clips, tubing, hooklimks ready made rigs, ,rig foam ,pva bags and mesh baiting needles, scissors ect ect on site for your convenience.
I see more and more anglers every year buying pre tied rigs and having been to Pacific peche several times with lads I think the omc gear is about the best .I have to take my hat off to Ali hamedi and the one more cast crew as there presentation and innovation of new stuff is amazing in such a short time that they've been out. Im really excited to see what they have to offer and in the pipeline. However we won't be stocking there twig system or any adaptions of it ,sorry as its not allowed . We will also have a few other products from rig marole continue to stock the free fall tubing which im a huge fan of as you know.
Im Also going to get more sleeping bags in for the new season as its really taken off people hiring them out to save space in there luggage as it a bulky item . I will see if I can get some warmer ones for the lads on early depending on cost . But we need more as if there hired out back to back weeks its a quick turnaround laundering them all on a busy change over day.
The baitboats have arrived back with the new conversions fitted so all 4 microcats now are self priming . so you dont have to kneel by the waters edge to prime the jets just press the button and your away. Thanks Graham.

Snow in the night just a sprinkling . I took this photo off the camera mounted on the house gable . You can see how full the new lake is from it ,over peg 4. Both lakes are brimming after all the rain. A lot of lakes near rivers have lost fish where the rivers have burst there banks i read on keith moores post . Apparently fields are turning into lakes in certain areas . I know the barrage on the river cruese is fully open after all the rain. Hard to believe how much rainfall were getting must be a nightmare for the farmers. Hopefully march is dry.
Ive put several more intakes in over the years , trying to get as much water in the lake . with a ditch around the field edge and down the driveway to Chad's pool .
When steve and jay was here in October we put pipes from the gutter water from the lean to and log store. The water off the cabin now goes in too the lake aswell, as water is a commodity in the hot summer months and every drop counts.
Now Chad's pool is full with depths now on average over 6ft we can top up when foxpool starts to drop in the summer i do intend to extend the ditch in the field and run it into 3 nursery ponds i want to dig out for breeding, then it will overflow in to foxpool.
