This week, our Technical Manager for MAGNIVA Forage Inoculants visited a farm in France during the rye ensiling process.
The crop had been chopped, the silo filled, compacted and covered: all critical steps for silage success.
📸 As shown in the photo, excellent compaction was achieved using two tractors weighing 15 and 18 tonnes, helping to ensure high density and optimal preservation conditions.
❓ Why is compaction so important?
A high-quality compaction helps to:
✅ Remove as much air as possible from the silo
✅ Create the anaerobic conditions needed for fast, efficient fermentation
✅ Limit dry matter losses and heating
✅ Improve silage stability at feed-out
