🛠️ Learn by doing ... in Warsaw, Poland!

WAVES 2026 is an ESVS hands-on workshop designed for vascular surgeons and phlebologists who want to start or sharpen their endovenous practice.

Built by experienced vascular specialists, the course moves quickly from focused discussion to real procedural experience, with lots of conversation and a lot of time allocated to practising.

Participants will work through endovenous laser and sclerotherapy step by step. First on simulators, then in the operating room. Every attendee takes part in multiple laser and sclerotherapy sessions, with close supervision and direct feedback from expert tutors.

This is practical training grounded in daily clinical reality. No questions will be left unanswered.

🗣️"To have better level of recommendations for these pathologies"

Today, we highlight the contributions of an outstanding centre to the European Venous Registry - thank you APHM (Assistance Publique - Hopitaux de Marseille)!

Olivier Hartung shares the importance of this registry for improved recommendations:

"I am a vascular surgeon in the North University Hospital of Marseille, France with more than 25 years’ experience in venous stenting for acute and chronic cases. I was part of the initial team of the EVER registry. I found important to join it because I think it is mandatory to obtain results on high number of patients in order to have better level of recommendations for these pathologies with clinical and duplex scan follow-up and QoL evaluations. Moreover as we can include patients that are not operated, this registry will be able to give us data on the natural history of these diseases. Cases inclusion is easy and does not require long and fastidious experience. I made a list of the included patients in order to be able to follow them adequately."

How do you decide when to intervene in a type B aortic dissection, and how far is far enough?

In the newest ESVS Podcast, recorded live in Munich, Prof. Tsilimparis shares how he approaches one of the most challenging areas of vascular surgery: aortic dissection management.

The conversation moves from timing and indications to the grey zones of “uncomplicated” dissections with high-risk features, where judgment matters as much as guidelines.

Along the way, the episode explores the details that shape outcomes: landing zone selection, oversizing strategies, device choice, branch vessel management, and the role of IVUS in confirming true lumen access and avoiding complications. It’s a thoughtful look at how planning, preparation and surveillance come together in daily practice.

A valuable listen for vascular surgeons and trainees navigating complex aortic disease.

After a DVT, many patients are afraid to move. Here’s what we tell them.

In the latest ESVS Podcast, Dr. Marie Josee Van Rijn (vascular surgeon, Erasmus MC, Rotterdam, Netherlands) explains why early mobilisation and exercise after deep vein thrombosis (DVT) are not only safe, they can also support recovery and help reduce long-term complications like post-thrombotic syndrome (PTS).

Practical takeaways from the episode:
- Start simple: walking is accessible, can be done anywhere, and helps patients build confidence
- Pair movement with compression therapy when appropriate
- Focus on consistency: doing something regularly matters more than doing something “perfect”
