Behind every advancement in our community are people who push boundaries.

This International Women’s Day, we celebrate the women who contribute to the ESVS community through research, leadership, education, and clinical excellence.

Their work helps shape the future of vascular surgery, strengthen collaboration across Europe, and inspire the next generation of vascular specialists.

While the journey toward equality continues around the world, progress is happening thanks to individuals who challenge us to improve.

Today we say thank you to the women who make our community stronger.

Tag a colleague or mentor who has made an impact on your journey in vascular surgery.

Why bother radiologists when you can build your own MRI machine? 🔨

After guiding us through the ins and outs of ultrasound, Justin Woolgar now leads us into the most fascinating areas of the MRI machine.

By listening to this podcast episode, you'll get familiar with the machine's hardware, the magnet's strength, and how the images can be interpreted.

You probably shouldn't try this at home, so you might as well listen to Justin go through it!

"I am Domenico Baccellieri, Associate Professor of Vascular Surgery (Chairman Prof. Germano Melissano) at Vita Salute San Raffaele University and Director of the Vein Center in Vascular Surgery Dept (Head Prof. Roberto Chiesa) at IRCCS Ospedale San Raffaele, Milan.
Our centre is an Academic tertiary referral hub for complex venous disease, including chronic venous disorders, post-thrombotic syndrome, pelvic venous disease, and advanced endovascular venous interventions. Clinical care, research, and education are tightly integrated in our daily practice.
We have based our clinical practice on a multidisciplinary approach, which has proven crucial for optimizing outcomes.

What motivated your centre to join the EVeR registry?
Our primary motivation was the need for high-quality, real-world evidence in venous disease. While randomized trials are essential, they often fail to capture the complexity of everyday venous practice. Moreover, there is a strong need for real-world data that support clinicians and also help industry partners to better understand the true effectiveness of treatments.
EVeR registry offers a unique opportunity to standardize data collection, benchmark outcomes, and contribute to a European-level scientific effort that reflects real clinical scenarios. Everybody is “talking the same language”!

How does participation in EVeR align with your centre’s clinical priorities in venous disease?
Participation in EVeR is perfectly aligned with our priorities:
- Evidence-based management of venous disease
- Continuous outcome assessment
- Improvement of patient selection and procedural strategies
The registry supports our goal of translating clinical experience into measurable outcomes that can influence guidelines and daily practice.

When the evidence is limited, judgment matters.

In part three of the ESVS Podcast Q&A series on the 2025 Clinical Practice Guidelines for mesenteric and renal artery and vein diseases, the panel turns to some of the rarest and most debated conditions in vascular practice.

Throughout this final episode, one theme stands out: many of these conditions are rare, evidence is limited, and shared decision-making within multidisciplinary teams and with patients is essential.
