Hospital at Home is transforming healthcare systems worldwide. Instead of staying in hospital beds, patients can now receive hospital-level treatment in their own homes. Each country takes a different approach, and through our international study missions, we explore these models first-hand.

Today, we share another insight – this time from France, where HAD is not only medical but also profoundly social. 🔎 What makes France different is the way it integrates social connection and well-being into home hospitalisation. While many systems prioritise technology or efficiency, France reminds us that healthcare at home is also about humanity, dignity, and belonging.

The Santé Service Foundation, Europe’s largest HAD provider, supports nearly 2,000 patients every day in the Paris region. Beyond treatment, their teams bring solidarity and dignity into daily care:

What if urgent care came to you instead of the other way around?
In Sweden’s Västmanland Region, mobile health teams travel day and night to support patients at home. Doctors, nurses and psychologists are only a call away – and only 6% of calls end up in the emergency room.
🔎 Analysis: Sweden shows how mobile units can transform access to care. They reduce hospital pressure, reassure families and prove that continuity of care doesn’t have to mean hospitalisation.

[ International Insights ] 🇪🇸 In Barcelona, hospital care is moving home.

During our recent study mission in Catalonia, we observed how the Hospital Clínic de Barcelona integrates digital tools into home hospitalisation . Patients are monitored with connected devices, AI helps select who can be treated safely at home, and six dedicated teams follow up to 100 people each day.

🔎When technology is combined with human follow-up, unnecessary hospital stays can be avoided without compromising safety. The result: fewer admissions and 94% patient satisfaction.

👉 Insights like these are at the heart of our international work: bringing back models that show how efficiency and humanity can converge.

In Yverdon-les-Bains, Switzerland, the Fondation Primeroche offers a new way of growing older — not in waiting, not in withdrawal, but in 𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲, 𝘀𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗼𝗿𝘆 𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗵𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀, and most importantly, in the 𝗳𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗱𝗼𝗺 𝘁𝗼 𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗼𝘀𝗲.

Today, over 160,000 people live in Swiss care homes. By 2040, a further 900 homes will be needed. Some providers are already thinking ahead.

🇳🇴🏡 Caring at Home, the Norwegian Way

We’ve been spending a lot of time in Norway lately — and for good reason.

From May 12 to 15, Dialog Health accompanied a new delegation for the study tour:
“Home Care and Support for the Elderly: Lessons from the Norwegian Approach”, in partnership with FEHAP.

This mission took a close look at how Norway organizes its health and social care system, with a special focus on:

• A multisensory trolley, bringing Snoezelen-type experiences to bedridden residents
• A dry spa bathtub designed for dignity and relaxation
• E-tribikes enabling outdoor mobility for wheelchair users
• A Ziesel, an all-terrain electric chair for excursions in nature
• The ANI MDoloris monitor, a tool for real-time assessment of comfort

🎬 The delegation also discovered the Studio Primeroche, where training and video content are produced, and enjoyed a delicious finger-food lunch shared with residents — a moment of conviviality that perfectly closed this inspiring morning.
