Feeling better is not, and should not, be a complicated path.
This was mine with no fluff, weird wellness jargon or time consuming practices.
Once I received the message from my body that things were not good, and physical health symptoms were manifesting, I:
1. Drastically changed up my yoga practice - less fiery flow, and emphasis on muscle toning, to focus on breath, grounding and slow movement. Reconnection for my mind and body.
2. Slowed down in general and started prioritising myself along side everyone else. So hard, this did not come easily and is still something I have to work on.
3. Carved out regular alone time (the Holy Grail for every mother) for walking, day dreaming, listening to music and reading.
4. Explored and had fun with a variety of nervous system tools, found some which stuck and worked for me.
5. Found a wonderful coach to work with. Was dubious about this to start with, but having that hour a week to tune in to myself, and have things pointed out in a different light, was liberating and game changing. What felt at first like an indulgence quickly became a no-brainer.
6. Reconnected with me. Wasn’t sure who ‘Jo’ was anymore. My identity had been intertwined with being Mum, a wife and working full time for so many years and I was rarely alone to just be Jo. This was a big piece of the puzzle - rediscovering what lights me up, apart from my gorgeous family, and then pursuing it with joy and optimism.
7. Breathwork. Found a simple practice I could integrate twice a day. Changed up my anxiety and how I responded to the world / life.
8. Community - I had let friendships drift, no time for them before, I thought. I reconnected with old friends and made some beautiful new ones.
Simple actions with no fancy psychology phrases.
And this was just my roadmap, we each have our own unique way so I invite you to have fun with yours.
If this seems a lot, I only took one step at a time over a period of about 3 years.
It’s a marathon, not a sprint 😘
