Five months ago today I had spinal fusion on my back. I've been treading the same road, a 3km walk. I've had nerve damage in my legs, which made me limp to the extent someone stopped a few weeks ago and asked if I needed help !!
Today I walked normally, normal speed, normal stride, without over thinking each step
I've a very long road back to my form, but today it's a win 🙏

Usually they come and nest in Autumn but they ve arrived late, 1000s of starlings sleep in our bamboo every night. They come from all round and in the morning they depart.in groups of 100s. We are treated to this amazing evening display

"However beautifully we carry out an asana, however flexible our body may be, if we do not achieve the integration of body, breath, and mind we can hardly call it yoga. What is yoga after all? It is something that we experience inside, deep within our being. Yoga is not an external experience. In yoga we try in every action to be as attentive as possible to everything we do. Yoga is different than dance or theatre. In yoga we are not creating something for others to look at. As we perform the various asanas we observe what we are doing and how we are doing it. We do it only for ourselves. We are both observer and what is observed at the same time. If we do not pay attention to ourselves in our practice, then we cannot call it yoga."

As the year closes I owe thanks to everyone who has helped me these last few months. Especially my family, and my yoga family who despite me only being seated on a chair for the most part handing out instructions, you have continued to come to my yoga classes.
En particulier les Français qui ont essayé de comprendre et toléré mon terrible accent français !!!
As we move into 2026, let's hope next year's ride is a little less bumpy than this year.

25 years of practising yoga has amazing benefits. The suppleness and strength it has given my body, able to try anything, move how I want and succeed at most given time and practice. But what happens when the body changes through age or injury and is no longer functioning as one is used to. That's when the benefits for the mind shine through. It's becomes easier to keep a steady feeling of positivity, a reassurance and knowledge that everything is temporary and what has changed will changed once again.
Maintaining the love for your body continues, the forgiveness for not being able to function as you use to, the self compassion needed for healing over time. When one keeps the mind in check and steady nothing but the physical has changed, happiness and joy continue to shine ✨️
