Truth and Lies

Since this is the life she's got,
She does dwell on what she's not.
She'll not be contrite and say
That there must be a better way
To live. Hearing only the smash of the ball,
Landing hard against the wall.
And wondering if it’s more or less painful
To die all at once and be done with it,
Or to be cut down afresh
With each passing day.
In some new yet familiar way.

Take that, and that!
The wounding blow arrives
Yet the victim survives -
There being no blow low enough
To shake her from her mission.
To polish and present anew
The unadulterated truth.
Dismantle the lies and
Forge a different view.
Too briefly inspected,
Then casually rejected

By you. She draws a breath,
With each inhalation,
She rises above the mutilation.
Her cryptic words fall on deaf ears
Blank expressions confirm her fears
That the conversation’s cut and dried,
Bundled up and left outside.
She's lost the battle but not in vain,
Expunged the darkness, to begin again.
For there’s no way back once truth has gone
She mourns your death but must move on.

THE WORLD IS A BAD LOVER with its promises of good times but gone by morning. Solitude stays for breakfast and reveals the truth. Solitude offers no distraction. We may enjoy the world's distractions but this kind of stimulation always comes with a hefty price tag. The world's entertainments are not about authenticity if they turn us into passive consumers. A measure of solitude is needed to cut back on distraction and make space for authenticity. In solitude, we see what is going on, what is truly us and what is not. What we see may not be beautiful but it is real and authentic. The dial is reset when we turn away from a world which constantly distracts. The world, with its demands for our attention, keeps us stuck. The world is a bad lover if it constantly grabs attention and distracts from our authenticity. Taking time for solitude means letting the world in only when we are ready. Then if a project is against authenticity, we see it. Solitude offers an end to confusion and sorts the real stuff from the rubbish. The clear sight of solitude means seeing what needs to be done and doing it. Solitude supports integrity. The world is a bad lover if its empty promises distract from authenticity and integrity. Entertainment cannot bring happiness when it undermines these things. Some solitude is needed for authentic happiness.
