We all get a little stuffy sometimes… This is especially common when the weather changes or we get very busy (hello holiday season). This stagnant fluid buildup could be from a cold, allergies, or tiredness. Either way, this lymph massage can help. Even if you don't have time to get on the yoga mat, you can still give your body some TLC.

Here are some extra tips when practicing this flow:

-Take deep breaths with the belly and swallow with the throat the entire time. It will aid in getting fluids moving internally, as well as manually.

-Be gentle because this is not a deep muscular massage. You want to focus on the surface of the skin and allow your fingers to caress your body. Seeing a little rosy glow color on the skin is a good sign.

-Practice anytime, but you can also do this while you shower or wash your face. The warm water and glide from soap will make it extra enjoyable.

-Drink water. Help the body flush out the bad stuff and replenish with the good. Why not take a sip of water right now 😉

Magic is found on the edge of your comfort zone💙

Who says yoga needs to stay in the studio or on a mat?

The warmer weather invites us to practice outside with nature. The solar energy invites us to strike a posture when we are inspired☀️

Here I'm practicing camel pose, which is energising and heart opening. After the long winter, who else's minds, bodies, and spirits are eager to open up to the beauty that the Summer will bring?

Yoga for allergies 🙏🌸🍃

Why yoga can help you this Spring?

-It creates circulation in congested areas❤

-It gets fluids/pathogens moving down and out the body⚡

-The stretches and breathwork open up and relax tension in the airways💙

-It calms the body and aids the immune system during this uneasy time😌

-It gets you moving gently and effectively, when you might not have the energy to do other intense exercise🙏

The body wants to work with you, not against you. Though sometimes it does need a little extra help and special attention, especially during the changing of seasons🍃

We move, not because we have, but because we get to👣⚡✨

As much as I love the gentle therapeutics of yoga, there's something special about the athleticism too💪 To thrive in this part means lots of repetition, foundational work, strengthening, opening, control, cross training, and patience!

Ugh so much work, my laziness cringes 😖 Though really that's just another silly story from the head because the truth is, everyone is stronger than they think and more capable then they can imagine✨

In yoga, these poses are never easy or perfected, that's why we call it a PRACTICE. I try to focus on the present effort and journey because the "achievement" really is only a result of all that hardwork put in. It's the force pushing out the weak.The discovery of ease beyond the discomfort. The breath, within the stress. That's the real lesson and prize🏅

Yes we can smile at the pretty photo, number of kilometers, PR, achieved goal, etc. Though the fact is that we showed up, tried our very best, for a very long time THAT MATTERS 👏👏👏👏👏

Stay true at putting the work in this week, even if it's day 1. I see you and I'm with you💜💜💜💜💜

Make the body into a comfortable space for the mind to rest in

Stretching, sweating, strengthening, flowing, and consciously breathing are all ways to shift energy mentally, emotionally, and physically. Whatever your cup of tea maybe (and a combo of them all throughout the week is even better), it's important to prioritze that time for self-care through mindful movement. The body was made to move, not Netflix (even though rest is an important piece of the puzzle too)!
I know it can be challenging with work, family, motivation, life, but is all that more important than loving your temple body?

Trust me I know its hard, but if at first you push yourself into making movement a good habit, then it will eventually become 2nd nature.
Then the wonderful benefits like extra energy, inner/outter strength, mental peace, good sleep, mood boost and overall health will come with it!!

What kind of movement are you doing this week? For me it's yoga, pilates, an interval cycling class, and a 10km hike with friends. Though after that it will be rest, marché, some nice wine, a fancy home cooked dinner, and release 🙃

Sweet Child Pose💕

One of my favourite things about yoga is how accessible it is. Though some poses in yoga can look quite intimidating and almost competitive, which might turn people off. truly captures how simple, gentle, and harmonious yoga can be for EVERYONE🌏🙏

Child pose can be perfect on it's own or we can include some additional stretches to grow or vary it. Shoulder openers, lower back stretches, and even forehead massages are some perks I enjoy. Of course it depends on the person and the day☀️

It's important to modify this posture for pregnancy, knee sensitivity, or beautifully curvy bodies. We need to be very care of our knee joints to make sure this pose remains restorative, not painful🍃

Remember yoga can be as simple as sitting in child pose and breathing. On certain days that is plenty and oh so healing. It's the presence that you bring to your practice that will serve your mind, body, and spirit for all the days to come☀️🙏

It's a wonderful week to take care of your physical, mental, & spiritual/energetic self✨

Whether your out in the world or practicing wellness from your home, Monday can be the perfect day to move and plan your health regimen🙏

Here are a few tips that have helped my students and myself stay on track:

1. LOOK AT THE WEATHER in advance and plan more outdoor time on those sunnier warmer days. Schedule your walks, runs, swims, hikes, or nature time when the weather gods are on your side☀️

2. MIX IT UP with cardio, stretching, strenghtening, and restoration. This will keep you balanced and the body loves change! It will also keep you from burning out and overdoing/underdoing it in one category 🕯

3. BREATHING BREAKS. Strenghthen your respitory system, nourish your nervous system, and boost immunity by taking 5-20 minutes of conscious breathing. It doesn't always have to be in a strick seated meditation. You can do this before you sleep, while taking a bath, between meetings, or really when the mood strikes you. The stress relieving and health benefits are greater than you can imagine😌

There's still lots we can't control right now, but you always have the opportunity to invest energy into your well-being. Have a healthy and happy week friends. Namaste 🙏💛

Yoga RX🤓 Healing can take a village, but when you have the right people and techniques on your side anything is possible 💛
Currently working with my student's physio to create a custom yoga practice and wellness plan🙏💛
Back story:
When my student first came to me she was in lots of pain and had to wait at least a month before she could see a dr- the sad reality of many healthcare systems😔
I brought a listening ear, sympathetic heart, and enthusiasm to begin her NOW💛💫
We started by addressing her issues, but more importantly I got her moving in a safe and low impactful manner. The meditation and breathing techniques helped her gain a sense of ease over her nervous system, which in turn has aided her healing and life💛
Fast forward to months later and she's doing physical therepy, yoga, and meditation several days a week. She eventually found out that she has osteoarthritis, but has been able to manage it with her wellness team🙌
I send her a after class, which is 3 reccomendations to continue her balancing. We record our sessions together so she can repeat it on her own. I work with her physio to create wellness practices that not only help her gain strength, but are fun too!!

Alter your patterns & create resilience ✳
Yoga is wonderful for putting the body into different orientations and varying our normal shapes. The way we move, rest, work, and connect physically sculpt us. Even exercises we do have many repetitive motions, so to bring it all to balance we need to alter or counterbalance those positions too🌀
In a vinyasa practice we usually move on a sagittal plane, aways stepping forward and back.
By stepping to the side, moving in circles, jumping, making organic shapes and transitions, we can make it a more multidimensional practice. This challenges our autopilot minds and habitual movements. It nourishes the fascia and keeps us learning. The body loves change and being able to adapt to that change creates resilience🌪🏔

Embrace yourself and your natural smell🍃
One good thing that came out of 2020 was the fact that more people are ditching the deodorant🚫
Proper hygiene is necessary, but why is stuffing a bunch of dirty chemicals on delicate and super absorbent lymph nodes considered “clean.” 🤢
I think everything is a process and so was embracing my natural smelling way of life🍃
I began searching for a natural deodorant years ago and found many disappointments. Eventually I discovered some more expensive and well worth it cream based ones. Instead of harmful chemicals, they have natural ingredients that are actually good for you. After making the switch, I noticed that the texture of my skin and sensitivity under my arms changed 💛💛
Fast forward to a pandemic and I might put it on once a month haha. The truth of the matter is that I cleaned up my diet, exercise regularly, and am very conscious about what I put on my skin. Also I don't really mind my smell. It's not so bad because I'm not suppressing or battling against the way my body is biologically supposed to work. The smells and functions are more harmonious♾

I love mixing my yoga practice with other healing modalities. Lately because of a desire to let go of winter congestion, bring in more self-care habits, and strenghtening my immunity, I've added Manual Lymphatic Drainage to my practice ❤
It's basically skin moving skin in the most gentle way. A time where we feel our own body with our own hands in certain areas that don't usualy get much contact. The lymphnodes (aka the sewage drains of the body) are mostly around our neck, armpits, sternum, chest
abdomen, pelvis, and tops of thighs🕸
When we gently move the surface of these areas we can actually feel where there is more fluid retention or inflammation. We can then guide the fluid to move more efficiently out, so that bacteria, viruses, pathogens, excess hormones, and toxins are removed. The lymphatic system is directly connected to our immune system, so we should understand how to utilize it 🙌
Slow and gentle is key🔑 These drainage pipes run just under the surface of the skin, above the muscle bed. So it's a soft undulating and subtle moving of the skin. Not the muscle!!
By touching your body this way it also activates the parasympathetic nervous system and brings the body into a rest, digest, and healing state🙏
So all good things! Inflammation is the stem of disease and this is an anti-inflammatory practice you can do on yourself anytime and any day🌙☀️
