DO HORSES NEED VITAMIN C??
Vitamin C is a powerful antioxidant nutrient which a healthy horse manufactures itself.
Some horses, however, might benefit from extra supplementation including those under stress, older equids, when ill, and if they have PPID (Cushing's syndrome).
Make sure the vitamin C supplement you choose contains ascorbyl palmitate, sulphate or monophosphate, or calcium ascorbate, not ascorbic acid, which is not very bioavailable in horses.
Feed at least 4g daily to have an effect (and up to 20g daily) based on a 500kg horse, and always reduce the amount down gradually when you stop feeding it, to allow the horse’s body to adjust to manufacturing its own normally again.
