Scaling Up Nutrition Movement

Scaling Up Nutrition Movement Scaling Up Nutrition (SUN) is a country-led movement advancing the SDGs through

When children are properly nourished
they can grow up to be healthy and productive. When children are healthy and productive
their families, communities, and countries
become stronger. That’s why 65 countries around the world have
committed to making nutrition a priority. And why global partners are working
together to support the efforts of
the countries. Together, we can achieve
what no single effort could,
and make the world a healthier,
stronger place for us all.

Today nutrition will be on the agenda of the Summit.

Sustainable food systems, antimicrobial resistance, and environmental health all influence whether families, especially women and children, can access the nutritious food they need.

For the SUN Movement, this is a critical moment to look back reflect on the bold nutrition commitments made at the Summit.

56 SUN countries registered 365 commitments.
Now it’s time to ask: what progress have we made?

On , we're reminded that the problem isn't a shortage of food, it's a broken system.

Global systems often prioritize the mass production of cheap staples while nutrient-dense foods like fruits and vegetables remain expensive and highly perishable, leading to massive waste before they ever reach a family’s plate.

The SUN Movement is working across 67 countries to fix food "leaks" by putting nutrition at the heart of food systems transformation.
Transforming how we produce, store and distribute food is one of the most powerful tools we have to end malnutrition.

Climate change is reshaping the world our children will inherit ⛈️🌡️.

But across the SUN Movement, countries aren't waiting – they're acting.

From dryland farming communities to flood-prone regions, SUN countries are weaving nutrition into resilience plans, proving that protecting children's health and protecting the planet are the same mission.

A child can eat the most nutritious meal and still suffer from malnutrition – if the water they drink makes them sick🚰.

Waterborne disease is one of the most overlooked drivers of malnutrition. And climate change is making the challenge worse.

This year, the African Union has made water and sanitation a continental priority - recognising that sustainable water and sanitation systems are essential not just for development, but for the health and nutrition of everyone on the continent.

Countries like Nepal and Madagascar are already integrating WASH into national nutrition plans and seeing real results. But more countries need to follow.

Because safe water and good nutrition can’t be separate goals 💧 🥗 .

In Siargao, Philippines, women fishers are bottling sardines that now appear on Michelin-starred menus in Manila — and feeding their communities nutritious food in the process.

This is what it looks like when women farmers get the resources, infrastructure, and support they need.

Yet women producers remain under-financed and under-represented in agricultural investment and food policy - receiving less than 5% of climate finance.

2026 is the International Year of the Woman Farmer.

It's time to do things differently. It's time to .

Our cost the world over $10 trillion each year in hidden damage.

Much of this is driven by unhealthy diets that fuel disease, reduce productivity and slow development.

But transformation is possible.

As leaders gather at the Asian Development Bank Asia and the Pacific Food Systems Forum to advance action on resilient and sustainable food systems, SUN countries are already showing what works.

From policy to practice, countries and communities are demonstrating that integrating into food systems transformation delivers real impact.

Investing in nutrition delivers $23 for every $1 spent. aAnd when women and girls benefit directly, returns increase by over 50%.

Yet women and girls still face higher food insecurity and poorer diets worldwide.

This , Rights. Justice. Action. means ensuring every woman and girl can access nutritious food and essential services.

Because when women and girls are well nourished, everyone thrives.

Anaemia affects nearly 1 in 3 adolescent girls globally. It's not just a health statistic, it's a barrier to school, to opportunity, to a fair future.

But it's not inevitable. Girls in Indonesia, Tanzania, and Pakistan are being equipped to claim their health and their futures.

This , we stand for exactly that. Rights. Justice. Action. For all women and girls.

Obesity is not a “rich country” problem anymore.

It’s a disease rising fastest where healthy food is hardest to afford.

When ultra-processed food is the cheapest option, this isn’t about personal choice.
It’s about broken food systems.

And systems can change.

Across SUN countries, leaders are taking action:

🇹🇿 Tanzania is taxing sugary drinks to encourage healthier diets.
🇵🇭 The Philippines is helping consumers spot unhealthy ultra-processed foods.
🇿🇲 Zambia launched the “Good Food Logo” to make healthier choices easier.

On , we stand with the countries redesigning food systems, so healthy diets are within reach for everyone.

What if the barrier to better nutrition isn't a lack of knowledge, but a lack of accessible tools to share it? 💡

In , frontline workers were reaching families every day, but existing nutrition materials were too technical and disconnected from local food realities.

Here is where the Nutrition and Food Security Alliance of Namibia's "Nutrition for Health" comes in.

A new training approach that is improving the way parents feed their children and how communities understand and can improve their own food systems.
