Every single survey about willingness to use new methods of male contraception wind up finding the same thing... That more than half of respondents would consider using the method and in the case of this audience, it was more than 75%! Nevertheless, we still get women asking this question of whether they can trust men to use it, meanwhile we have talk show hosts joking that they might just slather the NES/T gel on a man without his knowing it. How can we say that there isn't a double standard in our gender norms going on that isn't impeding the development of male contraception?

Incredibly proud of new graduate Thythy Do for this newly published perspective on the website, highlighting the negative association of state-level abortion restrictions and interest in male contraceptive clinical trials. While rare, unplanned pregnancies in clinical trials do happen and when they do, couples need the option to choose abortion. Abortion restrictions in states limit the number of states where these trials can thus take place, further slowing the timeline to getting on the market.

There are men out there who recognize that threats to abortion, even if they occur in female bodies, are directly linked to their own reproductive rights and freedom. We need now, more than ever.

Thanks for setting the stage for . We're due for a contraceptive revolution. The technology is emerging and our patients are ready for a change. I argue that the emergence of male contraceptive methods will raise the bar on acceptability and tolerability, forcing female methods to improve thereafter. Are women going to tolerate painful insertions when given the option of her partner using a topical gel? 👀

The Center for Male Contraceptive Research & Development

Nearly one-third of contraceptive users report using a male-directed method. Current methods for men include only vasectomy, which is not reversible, and condoms or withdrawal, which have high failure rates. Men need and want more options. Many women either cannot use or cannot tolerate current hormonal methods, meaning that women want men to have more options too. Men want to plan and prevent pregnancies; now they just need a method.
