🧡 In treatment, each of us is different.
Some find strength in shared stories within support groups, while others prefer the intimacy of one-on-one counseling.

1 Question, 3 Answers
In this new series of posts, we ask one essential question, and invite three voices to answer: a doctor, a patient, a researcher, a caregiver, a Cure51 Team Member and more.

🧬 Our third question: What’s a myth about Cancer you’d like to debunk?

Yann Bizien, Patients’ Committee Manager
🟥 Myth: There is no innovation in Cancer research.
🟢 The truth? Cancer research is actually "boiling" with innovation and moving fast, we just need to look beyond the outdated treatments to see the breakthroughs happening right now.

Marine Otero Del Val, Head of Product
🟥 Myth: Cancer research is moving too slowly and progress takes forever.
🟢 The truth? Research is already accelerating enormously: we're moving at a much faster, more sustained pace than people realize.

Quentin Blampey, Machine Learning Researcher
🟥 Myth: Cancer research failures are wasted effort and don't contribute to progress.
🟢 The truth? Every single study, even those that seem to "fail", adds another small stone to the foundation, and it's all these combined efforts that create the breakthroughs we need.

💬 What is your answer? We’d love to hear it, feel free to share it in the comments!

🩵 We proudly stand with you for Turquoise Month, September's time to raise awareness of gynecologic Cancers

🇺🇸 Meet Samantha, a cherished member of our Patients’ Committee, who knows this journey intimately. Diagnosed with cervical Cancer at just 27, she faced not one but three recurrences. Each time, she had to confront uncertainty, limited treatment options and the heavy weight of resilience.

What carried Samantha through was the strength she found in community and advocacy:
"I've learned to see value in all the ups and downs. I've grown so much personally and know what I'm capable of. I'm grateful for who I've become along the way."

Today, Samantha brings that experience and determination to our mutual work, to advance research and improve outcomes for women everywhere.

🎥 Want to learn more about Samantha’s journey? Stay tuned for more interviews coming up!

🧡 Your Voice, Your Story with Yann Bizien: Looking up medical information online

Tell us your thoughts: is looking up information about Cancer online a good idea?
🎥 Meet Isabelle. In 2011, she began experiencing simple back pain. A few months later, she was diagnosed with inoperable pancreatic Cancer. Two years later, she was diagnosed with a second Cancer: lung Cancer with liver metastases.
Today, Isabelle is considered cured of all three Cancers.

In this third episode, Isabelle opens up about her choice to avoid going online to gather information about her Cancer.

💬 When faced with health challenges, did you become a research detective or did you choose Isabelle's path of intentional ignorance? Tell us in the comments!

💡 Ever wondered how doctors can actually see Cancer's activity in your body?

Meet the PET Scan, a powerful imaging tool used in Cancer care to detect how active Cancer cells are.
Here’s it works:
🧪 A small amount of radioactive sugar is injected into your bloodstream
🧠 Cancer cells consume more energy, so they absorb more of the sugar, making them light up during the scan
🖥️ This allows doctors to spot even small or hidden tumors that other scans might miss

This incredible technology is used to:
- Get a clear picture at diagnosis
- See if the Cancer has spread to other areas
- Check how well your treatment is working
- Monitor you during follow-up care

✨ The beautiful part? Being able to understand how each unique Cancer behaves, so doctors can create a treatment plan that's truly personalized for each and every one of us. This precision means better outcomes, fewer side effects and better treatments.

🧡 Your Voice, Your Story with Yann Bizien

🎥 Meet Isabelle. She was diagnosed with inoperable pancreatic Cancer and lung Cancer with liver metastases.
Today, Isabelle is considered cured of both Cancers.

When we speak about Cancer, we often speak in metaphors of war: battling, fighting, surviving. For Isabelle, the path was different: instead of a fight, it was a form of surrender and of quiet resistance.

🔬 Breakthroughs in Cancer research can change how we think about treatment, prevention, and survival: what if a single gene could change how your body uses vitamin D, and help stop Cancer cells in their tracks?

That’s the question researchers from Hamad Bin Khalifa University (Qatar) and Middle East University (Jordan) set out to answer when they studied a little-known gene called SDR42E1. This gene is essential for absorbing and processing vitamin D, a nutrient we all need for strong bones, immunity, and overall health.

Scientists used a precise gene-editing tool called CRISPR to "turn off" the SDR42E1 gene in colorectal Cancer cells. The results were remarkable: more than half the cancer cells died, thousands of other Cancer-promoting genes stopped working properly, and healthy cells remained completely safe.

🧡 While this research is still in early stages, it offers a glimpse into a future where Cancer treatment is tailored specifically to every patient’s unique biology.
