As you know, I stopped running marathons at 40 and picked up weight training — and honestly? It’s the best decision I ever made.
But I’m not going to pretend it’s been perfect. Building muscle has always been my goal and by my own standards, progress has been slower than I’d like. What I CAN tell you is that my body composition has completely changed. I’m leaner, stronger and my body looks and feels different in ways that running never gave me.
And here’s what I know for certain — starting at 40, during perimenopause, was not a coincidence. It was timing I didn’t fully understand back then but that I now coach women through every single day.
Because what we do in perimenopause matters MORE than most women realise.
The muscle you build now protects you later. The habits you create now carry you through menopause and beyond. I wish someone had told me this sooner — which is exactly why I’m telling you now !
