According to the panchanga Vedic calendar of South India, Shivratri is celebrated during the month of Magha which corresponds to the Gregorian calendar of the month of February/March

Shiva has a first wife, Sati

Sati's father, Daksha, did not find that Shiva was up to his daughter

Sati still married Shiv

But one day Daksha did a yagna honoring the fire 🔥 Agni

All the Gods and Goddesses were invited but not Shiv

Sati went to her father and threw herself into the fire 🔥 Agni, she imolated herself thus she showed her father her displeasure at not appreciating her husband

Shiv showed his furious anger by doing the Tandav, the cosmic dance, which you know because you will often find Shiva in meditation or in Tandav, The Nataraj (in the photo)

Uncontrollable, Shiv had even unbalanced everything day (light) and night (darkness)

Nothing was wrong

Shiv, the destroyer of our Universe danced in rage around the burned body of his wife

Vishnu the preserver of our Universe, came and cut the body of Sati (to free Shiv and Sati) with his Sudarshan Chakra (Disk) and the pieces fell in several revered places in India even today

To tell you the short story

Sati was reincarnated as Parvati, daughter of the Himalayan mountains.

After long Penances, Parvati was able to convince MahaDev Shiv to marry her

And it is said according to the Purans (sacred Vedic texts) that on the day of MahaShivratri Shiv married Parvati

The festival has started yesterday the 14th of January and ends today 15th of January, for those who does not know why this festival is very important in India,

Let me explain, Makar Sankranti is when the Sun visit the Constellation of Capricorn in Vedic Calendar.

The Sun, The Father👑🌅

Capricorn ruled by Shani (Saturn) in Vedic Astrology🙏💫

Makar means Capricorn

Everymonth there is a Sankranti....

In the Vedic Mythology, Saturn is the the Son of the Sun and Shaya the wife of the Sun, the shadow!
