What does it mean to grow up in a world where emotional honesty between boys is off-limits? Where being yourself can cost you acceptance?

In this Short, I talk about what that double life felt like — and what it cost me.

In Australia, I grew up being told — subtly and directly — that the way I expressed myself wasn’t "masculine enough."

I wasn’t sporty. I liked music, films, and books. That made me a target in a culture that values conformity and tough-guy energy.

This Short unpacks that experience — and points to a wider cultural issue.

Make helpful content. Be real. Don’t play the clickbait game.

That puts me a bit at odds with the YouTube algorithm. If I wanted fast growth, I’d choose a narrow niche and repeat the same content formula every week. But that’s not how therapy works — and it’s not how I work either.

My clients are varied, and so is the content I make. It’s not always “on trend,” but it is human. And if it’s been helpful to you, you can help it reach others. Liking, subscribing, and sharing the video really does help more people find it.

Plus, I’m hoping this channel becomes a space for community. I'd love to see what happens in the comments when people start connecting.

Well yes, it’s partly business. But the real reason goes deeper.
In my 20s, I lived in Singapore, where accessing therapy could put your residency at risk. So I found other ways to support myself: I practiced yoga, I read voraciously, I leaned on friends, and I learned to understand myself through whatever means I could.

Those resources helped me get through. Now I create videos for people in the same boat — folks who can’t access therapy, or who are looking for other ways to reflect and heal.

They’re not a replacement for therapy, but they can be therapeutic.

In sessions, I aim to listen more than talk. But sometimes, clients want deeper understanding — of trauma, attachment, masking, or just the way their brain works. I used to send links, but most people didn’t click them. Eventually I realised: they weren’t just looking for information — they were looking for my voice.

So I started making videos — not as homework, but as invitations to go deeper.

Before hitting play on Adolescence in your classroom, ask yourself these questions. Teaching this show responsibly requires more than good intentions — it takes preparation, credibility, and follow-up care.

It’s me. Just me. No team. No fancy setup. Just a therapist with a camera and a mission to make therapy content that feels real, accessible, and human.

This new Short gives you a quick peek behind the curtain.

It’s not a casual classroom resource. This short asks teachers to reflect on some tough but essential questions: Do you know your students well? Are you equipped to guide emotional discussions and manage tough reactions? Do you have the follow-up support in place?

If the answer is yes, you might be in the right position to use this show well. If not, it’s worth waiting until you’ve got what you need.

In my teens, I was already living out of home… but with zero clue how to keep one.
What followed was years of frustration, emotional resistance, and eventually — progress.

This week’s blog post is about the journey from shame to self-compassion, and why housework has become one of the most grounding parts of my week.

What if we used Adolescence not just as media content, but as a springboard for deeper conversations across multiple school subjects? Its emotional honesty, moral complexity, and layered storytelling are ideal for exploring empathy, communication, and critical thinking — if it's taught with care.

In Adolescence, we spend four episodes talking about Jaime. Jaime’s father. Jaime’s family. But the girl he assaulted? I had to stop and realise — I don’t even know her name.

That absence isn’t accidental. It reflects the show’s priorities, and when this is used as a classroom resource, students — especially girls — are going to notice.

This short looks at what’s missing, why it matters, and how to handle those discussions with care.
