Bile duct injury (BDI) is one of the possible intraoperative complications which frightens surgeons, with an incidence of 0.3 to 0.7% of all cholecystectomies.

This video presents a patient who underwent laparoscopic cholecystectomy for acute cholecystitis and developed a postoperative biliary fistula, leading to referral to a hepatobiliary unit.
After further work-up, a delayed Roux-en-Y hepaticojejunostomy was performed, illustrating a step-by-step approach to treating a complete bile duct transection.

Many thanks to everyone for another successful month of learning.

02/12/2025

It is with great sadness that we have learned of the passing of Mrs Sybill Storz, a remarkable, visionary, and profoundly generous woman.

Daughter of Karl Storz, founder of the KARL STORZ company, Sybill Storz played a pivotal role in expanding and shaping the family business into a global leader in minimally invasive surgery.

But above all, she played a truly foundational role in the creation and development of both IRCAD and WebSurg, which simply would not exist without her trust, support, and unwavering commitment.

She was also deeply involved in the different projects of IRCAD mirrors, and IRCAD International would not exist without her.

Her close and long-standing relationship with Prof. Jacques Marescaux was instrumental in shaping IRCAD’s mission and influence. Over the years, their shared vision and mutual respect forged a unique partnership that profoundly transformed surgical education and minimally invasive surgery worldwide. Through her constant encouragement, she helped strengthen the bridge between industry and medicine, benefiting surgeons and patients across the globe.

Far beyond her achievements, Mrs Sybill Storz will be remembered as a woman admired by all who had the privilege of crossing her path: for her kindness, her warmth, her energy, and the genuine humanity she brought to every encounter.

Prof. Jacques Marescaux and the entire IRCAD team extend their sincere condolences to her family, her loved ones, and all those who were fortunate enough to know and work with her.
