My favourite quote, with huge apologies to T.S Eliot is: "We shall not cease from exploration, and the end of all our exploring will be to arrive where we started, and to know the place for the very first time!"
I teach this to all my yoga students, because although it couldn't possibly have been his intention, this quote so beautifully describes the yoga journey, for me. I never, ever tire of the same poses, no matter how many times I come to explore them.
And, that's just it: the yoga journey, to my mind at least, is one of journeying, exploration, discovery and an attitude of fresh inquiry every time that we come to our mats, whether it be one of yoga's 'easier' or more 'complex' poses. Each can be explored with renewed interest, every time. That keeps yoga unique for me, and I could never become bored with it.
Having said that, discovering new techniques is always exciting. In our Saturday morning Smoothie class today, we used small, soft pilates balls to enhance our practice - and I think I may be a fan! They were a great way to include more opportunities for adducting (as opposed to abducting) our arms and legs. And so, the exploration is ongoing, and I love it!
My Wednesday evening students now have a heads-up as to what they might be in for ;-)
