COMPASSion YOGA Retreats

COMPASSion YOGA Retreats Find your True North on one of our inspirational retreats Hi, my name is Leanne. I have been a teacher all my life, so I guess it's in my bloodstream!

I have practiced yoga for many years, but qualified as a yoga teacher in 2015. I was fortunate enough to be trained under the guidance of highly experienced international trainers, and continue to take my inspiration from them. I am lucky enough to live in the Dordogne, in beautiful countryside in the SW of France. In building 'Compassion Yoga Retreats' I hope to share all that I have learnt in the field of self-growth, nurturing and well being to those who are ready to take that journey with me.

This is a quick message just to say, that if you land on my page here, and have any concerns about me not posting many recent 'activities', please know that I am indeed very active - but prefer to do my activities on a yoga mat, than on social media!

My summer term lessons at the studio have been well supported, and I have thoroughly enjoyed encouraging the continuing yoga journeys of my long-standing students, as well as nurturing new starters on their way. We have now paused for the summer break, although private students are continuing to see me at home, and essential oil massages are keeping me busy too.

I'm pleased to say that bookings are coming in for my 4-day extended weekend Yoga and Meditation retreat in Tocane-St-Apre, and as we draw closer to September 19th, I am so looking forward to this special time of deepening our practices together.

So here then, are a few more landscape photos from my recent 'camera walk' (I don't have a dog!). This is lake La Jemaye, in my local area. A beautiful, serene place to linger, journal and meditate. '

Where is this beautiful place, you might ask?
It's in the Dordogne, France - and just about 15 minutes away from similar countryside views that you will see if you book to join one of our 'Compassion Yoga Retreats'. Visit www.compassion-retreats.com

Of course, by our first retreat weekend, starting on Thursday 16th May, the weather will already have changed (although I still love these dramatic skies after a storm!) And if you want even warmer weather, why not book in for the June weekend, starting on 6th? Prefer to avoid the summer rush? We have a retreat from 19th September too!

You can expect yoga, meditations, mindfulness, countryside views and walks, lounging by the pool, reading, resting and generally re-setting, with freshly prepared vegetarian food to nourish you.
I am so looking forward to the first one. The itinerary is taking shape right now, and it’s such fun to plan! See you there, perhaps?

Every week, by osmosis, I continue to learn new French words (sadly I just haven't had time to go to lessons over recent months!).

Current word of the month is: déménagement, meaning moving...as in relocating. Sounds like 'de-management', right?

Well, it's one of those things. I'm currently undergoing great 'de-management' with a house move in just a few days time.

Even though I'm surrounded by full boxes, gaping empty boxes, saying "pack me!", and may have developed an allergy to the sound of brown packaging tape...work on the Compassion Yoga Retreats website launch is still ticking over, and I think is just days away from being ready now!

Here's a taster of the Home Page. I'm genuinely very pleased with how it's looking, and think you will love it too!

My website is nearing completion, and as soon as it is ready, I will be able to share it with you, and that's' where you will be able to book directly! Just a little more patience… it is a virtue. Inhale, and exhale.

In May, the barley is high, the poppies are popping and the daytime temperature in the Dordogne usually hovers around a lovely 20C. Very pleasant walking weather.

In June, bees are buzzing almost deafeningly, shorts and T-shirts weather is well underway, and everyone begins to radiate a healthy summer glow.

In September, the peak of summer gives way to cooler temperatures but is often still very pleasant and it's the season of perfect golden evening light over the hills.

Whatever the season, participating in one of Compassion Retreat's long weekends will be a memorable, mindful, nourishing, peaceful, de-stressing and relaxing investment in your health and wellbeing!

Block the time off in your diary now... now is the time to prioritise your self-care.

Now, let me introduce you to the energetically sacred studio place where we will create circles of trust, sharing, yoga practice and meditation, as well as the lovely communal spaces.

The oak beamed studio with a high ceiling is a very special place. It has been lovingly and considerately renovated from a barn by the current owners, Valerie and Glyn, who understand the value of beautiful spaces in which to practise yoga and meditation. The lofty height allows for a sense of expansion, while at the same time the underfloor heating creates a sense of warm intimacy and cosiness. Light floods in from a pair of glass sliding doors, making the studio bright and airy, to support those deep inhalations! The feature stone wall is very characteristic of this region, and tells you that you're in rural France. Equipped with mats, blocks, cushions and bolsters…you don’t even need to pack your own.

There are also several other lovely shared communal spaces. Adjoining the studio and below the barn accommodation is a chill-out seating area with a kitchenette attached. This is where you can brew your own early morning cup of tea before practice, and find nuts and fresh fruit to graze on, while contemplating the day ahead.

Central to the farmhouse accommodation is the soft and comfortable lounge with cushioned sofas and centrepiece wood burning fireplace for cooler nights. This is a comforting, homely retreat space for conversation, reading, listening to a podcast, or reflecting in your journal, perhaps.

This retreat is all about you: spaces to practise, spaces to share, spaces to reflect, spaces to refuel, spaces to be enlivened, spaces to chill. The venue has been carefully chosen to encompass all of these.

Ah... it's just the best thing when you come home to find a message like this waiting in your inbox:

"Hi Leanne- just wanted to say thank you for two great sessions yesterday, I’m really feeling the benefits.
You look after your students amazingly well, and you give so much to everyone- the atmosphere is lovely, so supportive."

I know! I know.... you're all dying to see the inside photos of the venue I've chosen at Zen Yoga Retreats . When booking a retreat, people are usually most concerned with the accommodation - and rightly so. This is when I really knew I'd found the perfect venue!

The rooms are immaculate: unfussy but homely and comfortable and all tastefully decorated in a pared-back style but each with a specially chosen statement-piece of wall art or furnishing.

In the Barn Accommodation attached to the studio are three Twin Bedrooms all supplied with air conditioning and heating. Two of these have views over the gorgeous turquoise heated pool and rolling countryside and the third room is cosy, with an internal view over the ‘chill-out’-area below, which is conveniently situated alongside the bespoke studio.

In the Farmhouse Accommodation, there are a further two Twin Bedrooms and one Double Bedroom. Both twin rooms benefit from rolling countryside views; in addition one of these rooms has a double aspect, with a view over the front terrace too, where lazy hammocks beckon. The double room has views over the back terrace, and well-tended garden. All rooms have heating and a cooling fan.

The shared bathrooms in both the farmhouse and barn (4 bathrooms in total with 6 showers and 6 sinks between them) are modern, squeaky-clean neat and tidy and all equipped with heated towel rails, for a perfect start or finish to your day.

Lookout for more information about the communal lounge and chill-out area, oh AND.... the all-important studio space in the next post!

Yay! It's been decided. I have found the most beautiful, perfect venue to host Compassion Yoga Retreats, and I really couldn't be more delighted with absolutely everything about it, including its Dordogne location in France!

I have visited many highly recommended venues over the past few months searching, asking questions and being fussy. Here's the thing: it couldn't have just been any lovely place. I was looking for EVERYTHING to be just right.

From the ideal location, stunning countryside surroundings, the beautiful bedrooms and accommodation, neat and tidy bathrooms, a gorgeous heated studio with views, extensive peaceful garden with far-reaching views, to a massage room and a heated swimming pool - this ticked ALL the boxes.

Oh, and did I mention, lovely owners Valerie and Glyn, who love and appreciate everything there is to know about Yoga and retreat-hosting? So the vibe is well.... just inhale-and-exhale perfect.

For starters, have a look at these inviting outdoor photos. The property is surrounded by miles of forest and countryside offering guests the most wonderful walks. The local towns and village of Brantome, Bourdeilles and Aubeterre are postcard perfect with their Medieval architecture and local food markets too, offering fabulous visitor photo opportunities.

Retreat Dates for 2024 to be announced very soon, and I'm busy designing the itinerary for the long weekends right now. It's such fun!

Well, Christmas and New Year... as well as a hungry mouse chewing through my internet cable (yes, it really happened!) have slowed things down a little.

However, I'm keeping my fingers crossed that very soon I will be able to share more news with you of the perfect venue and dates for Compassion Yoga's 2024 long weekend retreats!

What else will you be doing around mid-May, early-June and late-September...?

When your area has had 7 weeks of almost non-stop rain and the farms are flooded, rivers have burst their banks and surface water is treacherous, you have to love the dedicated students who turn up for their evening yoga lesson!

Tonight we used this as an inspiration for our lesson, which seemed apt at this time of year, when we are all thinking about presents:

Yesterday is history,
Tomorrow is a mystery,
Today is a gift,
And that's why we call it 'the present'.

We inhaled gratitude for the gift of the present, the gift of warmth, safety and peace. The present is not always accessible for some, and so we sent an intention out to our loved ones, who need the gift of 'the present' at this time.

It was a beautiful, warming practice with lots of hard work. I love that yoga encompasses the mental, physical and spiritual aspects of ourselves. A rich blessing.
