The French Retreat

The French Retreat A place to get away from it all and find yourself: Yoga, Relationship Coaching, Family Constellations

Among the fields and vineyards of South Charente, The French Retreat is made up of an old manor house (maison de maitre), and a number of converted barns. It was designed to host workshops, events and courses which make the world a better place. We have capacity for 22 people in twin rooms and our food is highly acclaimed. There's a seasonal outdoor pool, table tennis and free Wi-Fi access. When we don't have courses on you can rent individual rooms as B&B/Chambre d'hote. The rooms are uniquely decorated in antiques and local brocante finds. South Charente varies between vineyards, wooded heath land and hills bordering Perigord. The gastronomic traditions of Pineau, foie gras, snails, and cognac are very much in evidence. With forest ponds, Romanesque churches castles, craft customs, gastronomic curiosities this region delights the senses. For the active there is riding, kayaking, river swimming, mountain bike trails and beautiful walks within easy reach.

Windows are the eyes of a home, and at The French Retreat, the view is always worth waking up for. 🥐☕️
There is something deeply restorative about the weight of old stone walls and the soft filter of lace curtains against the morning sun. It’s a reminder that life doesn’t always need to be fast; sometimes, it just needs to be still.
Whether you’re looking to finish that novel, deepen your yoga practice, or simply reconnect with your own rhythm, our doors (and windows) are open.
✨ Escape the noise. Find your center in the heart of France.

Are you ready to host your own retreat with us? If you’d love to work with a purpose designed holistic centre where there’s no language barrier and lots of support for you, where it’s fully catered and someone else can organise outings, book transfers and provide the client liaison so you can do what you do best, then drop me a yes in the comments and I’ll send you the info. Hosting abroad is something to come to if you have a loyal client base and experience of running day and weekend retreats in your community, or if you’ve already run retreats abroad but want a change of scene, or better food, or more support. I wanted to share this beautiful post from Andie who is running a leadership retreat with us in May. It’s from her newsletter which is really worth subscribing too (and I don’t say that lightly, because we all know that many are not worth the space in our inbox.) This is what she said:
« Winter has a way of narrowing the world just enough that we can actually feel what’s here.
And what’s here for me right now is… a lot.
Saturday, my son eloped.
I wasn’t there. And I won’t pretend that doesn’t ache.

And—this matters too—I’m also celebrating.
Our family expanded overnight.
My daughter-in-love is extraordinary. Truly.
She’s a beautiful match for my son, and I can feel how right this is for them, even as I grieve the moment I didn’t get to witness.

Both can be true.
That’s the work, isn’t it?
Which means I’m not teaching this work from theory right now, I’m living inside it while life lifes.

What I’m practicing (imperfectly and consciously) looks like this:

Not abandoning myself when things are complicated.
Not rushing to meaning before I’ve actually felt what’s here.
Letting the pause hold me long enough to choose how I respond instead of reacting from override.

I want to name something plainly, because I know many of you are carrying a version of this too—
Being “in it” does not disqualify you from leading.

In fact, it’s often what makes your leadership trustworthy.
The guides I trust most aren’t the ones with spotless lives or tidy answers.
They’re the ones who can stay present when things are real.
Who don’t dramatize, but also don’t minimize.
Who know how to slow themselves down without shutting themselves off.
That’s what I’m choosing to practice right now.

Winter is helping.
So is the quiet.
So is letting myself be held by both grief and joy without forcing resolution. »

Now doesn’t that make you want to join us in May? Type yes in the comments and I’ll send you the info

Retreat to France, Return to Yourself
The French Reset is designed to help you pause, breathe, and reconnect with what matters most. Away from daily demands, you’ll have the space to slow down, reflect on where you are and gently rediscover your own rhythm.
Through a balance of nourishing practices, meaningful conversations, and unhurried time in nature, this retreat offers the chance to release stress, gain clarity, and return home with a lighter heart and a renewed sense of direction—rested, inspired, and more deeply connected to yourself.

Throughout the week, daily sessions of meditation, breathwork, contemplation, and dialogue with Vijay Shyam will gently guide participants from the familiar grounding of body and breath into deeper layers of awareness. Workshops with Dr. Tas, ND will help you recognize where your limits are, communicate them with confidence, and create space for what truly matters. By learning how to say “yes” and “no” with clarity, you’ll move from feeling stretched and overwhelmed to feeling grounded, in charge, and more at ease in your daily life.

Together, we’ll explore how simple, mindful choices can restore balance, support energy, and create the foundation for lasting well-being.

If you are dreaming of sunshine, bone deep rest, a more flexible body and inner calm, please think about asking for this yoga and meditation retreat for Christmas. As it’s just 4 nights away and a short hop down to Bordeaux it won’t break the bank.

We have a few weeks still available in 2026 so don’t delay if you are thinking about running a retreat abroad this year. As well as being very experienced hosts we can source all the extras from transfers to soundbaths, shamanic drum journeys, or outings to French markets or local vineyards.

What a joy to host .hereyoga. They requested a French candlelit dinner for their final night, and given the dearth of lovely local restaurants we organised one here. was front of house in her signature red lippie, the team waiting tables like true professionals and a fabulous menu cooked up by consultant chef Leigh Codyre-Benson.
