If you have a common condition such as an ear infection, eczema, impetigo or a minor skin infection or require routine contraception, your local community pharmacy may be able to help.

Some pharmacies offer the Pharmacist Independent Prescriber Service – a free NHS service where you can get expert advice and free treatment if required, without needing to see your GP.

To find your local community pharmacy that offers this service, visit the Community Pharmacies page of our website: https://orlo.uk/unKCq and select ‘Independent Prescribing for Common Ailments and Contraception’ in the filter column.

Each year in Wales, lives are saved by diagnosing cancer early through screening.

➡️ Cervical screening: If you’re aged 25-64 and have a cervix you will be invited for screening every 5 years.
➡️ Bowel screening: If you’re aged 50-74 and registered with a GP, you’ll receive a bowel screening test kit in the post every 2 years.
➡️ Breast screening: Women aged 50-70 are invited for a breast x-ray every 3 years.

If you’re eligible, don’t put it off. Screening could save your life.

Whatever your age, if you’re experiencing any symptoms you are worried about, book an appointment with your GP. Early detection makes a difference.

Tarian Group - General Practices

In September 2019, two practices in Aberdare, in the Cynon Valley, South Wales, and a small practice in Caerau Lane in Cardiff came together with shared ideas on working more efficiently to combat the challenges that General Practice faces in these ever changing times. With increased demands on service, increasing complexity combined with poor funding and difficulties recruiting new GPs into the old ways of working, something had to be done to make things safer, more streamlined and efficient and able to manage the workloads in a smarter way for the benefits of the people we serve and the providers of front line care.

Tarian Group was formed, with the ethos of improving access and quality of healthcare provision over a number of sites. All the practices retained their local identity but have become Tarian group Practices. By gradually moving and training the Administrative teams on one site, our ambition is to not only make General Practice Sustainable, but effective and efficient for all our service users and those that work with us.
