Every Thursday, we will explore a relevant topic to things that crop up in the room- tight shoulders, low energy, life stress, skiing holidays, training injuries…..

Yoga will support and promote almost any area of your life, even if only to temper your mood and allow you to think more clearly.

Why would you not??

Much cheaper than therapy or wine. 🙌🏻

This is a great visual to try and demonstrate the complexity of a commonly problematic area.

The arrows indicated the directional pull of some of the the muscles attached to the scapula.

TEAMWORK!

If we look at our body as a whole, it’s a miraculous collection of component parts that work together.
When there is pain or dysfunction, it’s often not as ‘local’ 🎯 as we tend to think, and an open mind with sensitive inquiry can help identify a behaviour, movement, or lifestyle adaptation that might help.

Sharing here so I can refer back to this myself, as I go and set up my standing desk for some study time 🤣 I’ve subtly returned to sitting at an angle on the chair…

🦴 Shoulder Stability Is a Team Effort

This diagram highlights how multiple shoulder and scapular muscles work together to create smooth, controlled arm movement. Rather than acting in isolation, these muscles form force couples—balanced pulls that guide motion while keeping the shoulder joint stable.

The upper and lower trapezius work in synergy with the serratus anterior to produce scapular upward rotation during arm elevation. This movement is essential to clear the acromion, maintain subacromial space, and allow the arm to lift efficiently without compression of soft tissues.

The rhomboids and levator scapulae provide important stabilizing and controlling forces, preventing excessive protraction or elevation of the scapula. Their role becomes especially important during controlled lowering of the arm and postural correction.

At the glenohumeral joint, the rotator cuff acts as a dynamic stabilizer. While the deltoid generates powerful arm elevation, the rotator cuff counterbalances this force by compressing the humeral head into the glenoid, preventing upward translation and maintaining joint centration.

When these force couples are disrupted—due to weakness, poor motor control, or posture-related imbalance—the result can be shoulder pain, impingement, reduced performance, and increased injury risk. Restoring balanced muscle activation is therefore a cornerstone of rehabilitation, athletic conditioning, and ergonomic training.

If you’ve not got your sleep optimised, any other health promoting efforts you’re trying, are going to have more friction to make positive impact.

Increasing steps, going to the gym more, reducing portion sizes, calorie deficits, vitamins, supplements, and all your therapeutic treatments…… they need SLEEP to be the foundational layer for your body to make changes.

Give yourself the BEST opportunity to thrive, and be honest with yourself about these 5 points…..

No one is coming, you’re an adult now, and you can do hard things. 💪

For all sessions this week, please be aware of this current barrier!
Hopefully short lived 🤞
Let me know if virtual session is preferable.

It has taken 1 hour, 10 minutes to get from Leggart Terrace to Duthie park. Both bridges are closed in different directions causing congestion at roundabouts. If people dont block roundabouts then everyone will move faster

Today’s challenge….

As you check your personal emails, can you scroll right to the bottom and hit “unsubscribe” in 2-5 of the emails you know you don’t get any value from?

For me, it was Instagram updates, and SportPursuits sale adverts ✔️

Tiny change, one tiny micro stressor removed, seconds bought back in subsequent weeks, and saves you from scrolling through those surf boards/wetsuits/mountain bikes you don’t want or need 🤣
