Our CEO Prof Peter Fonagy has been awarded a CBE!

This recognises his outstanding contribution to children and young people’s mental health.

Peter has been our CEO for nearly twenty years.

During this time, he’s worked tirelessly to improve the mental health of children and young people. He’s always been guided by their lived experiences and the latest in science and evidence.

After leaving Hungary in 1967 and being separated from his family, Peter experienced depression and was supported by Anna Freud through therapy.

Inspired by the care he received, Peter went on to train as a clinical psychologist and a child and adult psychoanalyst.

He has dedicated his life to thinking differently about the mental health of children and young people.

Peter’s ground-breaking research, combined with his passion, has influenced treatment and policy for children and young people's mental health across the UK and beyond.

He says: “It is wonderful to be recognised, but this recognition truly belongs to the many colleagues whose brilliance, support, and kindness have enabled any achievement.

“Working to address children’s mental health issues that so many, including myself, have struggled with has been my life's privilege.”

I'm thrilled to announce my new position as Programme Director at Anna Freud for the PGDip Educational Mental Health Practitioner programme.

The EMHP is a new professional role and an exciting opportunity to deliver evidence-based early interventions for children, young people and parents/carers in educational settings. It is a full-time, year-long employment training programme on completion of which, trainees will qualify as an EMHP, one of the key roles in Mental Health Support Teams.

(This is a hybrid part-time position, so I'll still be based in Aberdeenshire and continuing with private practice and consultation work.)

Wishing you a year of healing and self-discovery.

The turning of the calendar is not just a change in dates; it’s an opportunity for reflection, growth and new beginnings. May 2024 be a year of positive transformations and personal triumphs.

Here’s to our journey together - using Dramatherapy and EMDR - to help navigate the twists and turns in life and to celebrate victories and learning from the challenges of life.

Best wishes,
Susan
