January can feel like a hard restart - so this month’s issue is built around simple resets that actually stick.

❄️ Winter wellbeing: one small upgrade to your sleep, nutrition or self-care can shift your whole week.

🥤 Dry January: curious what changes when alcohol isn’t the default? Track sleep, energy, mood and money (Try Dry makes it easy).

🍵 Brew Monday (19 Jan): skip the “Blue Monday” doom - put the kettle on and have a real check-in with someone.

As the year draws to a close, taking time to pause and reflect can be one of the most powerful gifts you give yourself. ✨

Reflection allows us to learn from the past year — its challenges, achievements and unexpected moments — and approach the new one with clarity and direction. It helps us close the year with gratitude, reset our focus, and step forward with intention.

In our December issue of Wellbeing Monthly, we explore practical ways to support reflection and year-end wellbeing at work, including creating space for meaningful conversations, celebrating small wins, and setting compassionate goals for the year ahead.

Did you know that many people eat their way through about 6,000 calories on Christmas day? That’s about three times as much as we need. During the festive season, mindful nutrition makes all the difference. A healthy eating supports energy levels, immune function and mental wellbeing during the colder months.

Consider adopting the following habits:

- Build healthy eating gradually — don’t overhaul everything at once.
- Swap unhealthy snacks for fruits, nuts, seeds, rice cakes or yoghurt.
- Use a simple “food‑group checklist”: protein + dairy + starchy foods + fruits/veg + fibre + hydration.

This festive season isn’t about restriction — it’s about balance, joy and intention.

Over the last year, there were 125 inspections undertaken at 102 offshore installations, with 25 workplace health and safety concerns followed up – highlighting the importance of proactive safety management offshore 🛟

Working in offshore environments comes with unique challenges: extreme weather, remote locations, and complex operations all place extra strain on teams. Structured clinical governance is critical to keeping people safe and ensuring operational efficiency.

Key measures for offshore teams include:

- Robust incident reporting and follow-up systems
- Clear emergency and operational safety protocols
- Access to trained medical and wellbeing support
- Fatigue management and mental health support
- Regular training and competence assessments

Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) is more than “winter blues.” As daylight hours shorten, it can affect mood, motivation and concentration - which can show up at work too.

Why? Darker days can increase melatonin (sleepiness), while daylight supports serotonin, which helps regulate mood.

Small, practical adjustments can help:

☀️ Maximise natural light in workspaces (move desks closer to windows where possible)
🚶 Encourage short outdoor breaks during daylight
🕒 Offer flexible start/finish times when you can
💡 Share trusted info on light therapy and how to access professional support

When something goes wrong at work you need people who know what to do in the first few minutes, whether that is a physical injury or a mental health crisis.

HSE figures for 2023/24 show 604,000 workers sustaining a workplace injury and current working conditions costing an estimated £21.6 billion a year. At the same time mental health remains one of the main reasons for occupational health referrals, which is why both physical first aid and mental health first aid training are so important.

Our first aid training courses cover First Aid at Work, Advanced First Aid, Basic Life Support, Management of Anaphylaxis and more, tailored to your working environment. Alongside this, our Mental Health First Aid programmes help people at every level of an organisation to spot signs of mental health decline, start difficult conversations and signpost colleagues to appropriate support.

Details of our courses and pricing are available here:
