THE ROLE OF ACUPUNCTURE IN CONTROLLING CHRONIC PAIN
Some people live with chronic pain on a daily basis and the effect on their lives and wellbeing can be quite devastating. Pain is the bodies reaction to trauma, inflammation or illness.
It is not unusual for heavy duty medicines to be prescribed routinely to deal with constant pain, and in the short term they can be helpful.
Problems occur when the short term becomes long term, to get the same level of pain relief will require higher and higher doses.
Side effects of taking some of these drugs can be physically awful, causing constipation or stomach and bowel problems, and can also lead to lethargy, brain fog, depression and addiction. People who become addicted to prescription drugs are not really aware of the problem until they try to stop using them.
Acupuncture or Acupoint massage (tui na) can be really helpful for people wanting an alternative to conventional Western drug therapies for pain control or general well-being.
The aim of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is to help the body to heal itself using acupuncture channels which run throughout the whole body. Tapping into these channels using fine needles or finger pressure can unblock and resolve the pain issues.
