✨ Did you grow up in a home where your feelings weren’t noticed, comforted, or validated? ✨

This is what we call Childhood Emotional Neglect (CEN).
It doesn’t always come from a lack of love—often parents simply didn’t know how to respond to emotions. But the impact can last into adulthood:

Feeling “empty” or disconnected inside

Struggling to identify your needs

Finding it hard to trust or depend on others

Healing begins with awareness. Learning to name your feelings and give yourself the care you didn’t receive is a powerful first step. 💙

📍 At Aberdeen Bespoke Counselling, I specialise in supporting adults who are uncovering the impact of CEN.

Good morning to any ABC followers!

You might be thinking I need support, but my issues aren’t really big enough to take to counselling - I would say 'hold on a second', no matter the size of the issue if it feels heavy to you, then it's worth bringing to me.

You might think, 'Well, I should just suck it up and get on with it and be able to deal with this on my own.' I would say, 'Please don't!' You are human and we all deserve that little extra help every now and then - yes ALL of us.

For all - please do visit my website for some further information, reassurance and how to contact myself. I look forward to hearing from you.

🌧 Anxiety can feel like carrying an umbrella everywhere—even when the sun is shining.

It’s exhausting to always anticipate the worst, prepare for “what ifs,” and never feel fully relaxed.

Counselling can help you:
✨ Understand where your anxiety comes from
✨ Learn practical tools to calm your nervous system
✨ Reframe unhelpful thought patterns
✨ Build self-compassion as you heal

You don’t need to carry that umbrella alone. ☀️

💭 “Nothing bad happened in my childhood, so why do I feel this way?”

This is a common thought for people who experienced Childhood Emotional Neglect (CEN).
CEN isn’t about what happened—it’s about what didn’t happen.
Your feelings weren’t seen. Your inner world wasn’t acknowledged.

👉 The result? As an adult, you may dismiss your emotions, over-give to others, or feel unseen in relationships.

The good news: these patterns can change.
Therapy creates a safe space to explore, understand, and nurture the parts of you that were left unseen. 🌱

You do deserve to be understood and supported.

🍂 November is a month of change. The leaves fall, the days shorten, and we’re reminded that letting go is a natural part of life.

In counselling, “letting go” might mean:

Releasing guilt from the past

Loosening perfectionism

Saying goodbye to relationships or patterns that no longer serve you

Every ending makes space for something new to grow. 🌱

🐻🍯💛 “A day without laughter is a day wasted.”

One of the sweetest reminders from Winnie the Pooh and Tigger is the power of friendship and laughter.

Pooh brings steadiness, kindness, and comfort. Tigger brings energy, joy, and silliness. Together, they balance each other out — showing us that true friendship doesn’t require us to be the same, it just asks us to accept and appreciate one another.

Laughter with a friend can lift heavy days, ease anxiety, and remind us we’re not alone. Sometimes, the best therapy is simply sharing a moment of joy. 🌿

Who is your “Tigger” — the friend who makes you laugh no matter what? 🧡

🌟 The Weight of Social Anxiety

Social anxiety can feel like a wall between you and the life you want. Everyday situations — speaking up in class, going to work, meeting friends — can feel overwhelming.

In counselling, together we can:
🌿 Explore the roots of your anxiety
🌿 Learn calming techniques for anxious moments
🌿 Challenge the harsh inner critic
🌿 Build confidence step by step

You are not “shy” or “broken” — your anxiety is a response that we can gently work with. With support, change is possible. 💙

🌟 Healing After Narcissistic Abuse

Narcissistic abuse can leave deep wounds — confusion, self-doubt, and a lingering sense of “not being good enough.” You may feel isolated or question your own reality.

Counselling offers a safe space to:
💛 Untangle what happened
💛 Rebuild confidence and trust in yourself
💛 Heal at your own pace

If you’re tired of carrying those heavy feelings alone, you don’t have to. Aberdeen Bespoke Counselling can support you to rediscover your voice and your strength. 🌱

🌟 Book Recommendation: “Let Them” by Mel Robbins 🌟

I’ve just finished reading Let Them by Mel Robbins — and honestly, I think so many of my clients (and anyone else navigating relationships, self-doubt, or anxiety) would benefit from this book.

The core idea is simple but powerful: when people show you who they are — by not supporting you, not inviting you, or not acting how you hoped — let them. Instead of fighting for approval or twisting yourself into knots to fit, this approach teaches you to step back, accept, and focus on your own path.

✅ Real-life examples make it easy to connect with.
✅ It’s relatable for anyone who struggles with people-pleasing, rejection, or overthinking.
✅ It offers practical tools for building boundaries, confidence, and self-trust.

I found myself thinking of so many situations where this mindset could have saved time, energy, and heartache. If you’re working on self-acceptance, confidence, or healing from difficult relationships — this is a book worth picking up. 📚💛

Have you read it yet? I’d love to hear your thoughts!
