Archie at Aberdeen Neonatal Unit

Archie at Aberdeen Neonatal Unit We are the official charity of the Neonatal Unit at Aberdeen Maternity Hospital, supporting babies born too sick or too soon.

All of the money that is donated and fundraised for Archie at The Neonatal unit goes back into the Unit. We have helped provide enhanced medical equipment, pediatric training & research, and family support for the parents and carers whose babies are in the unit.

💙 Supporter Sunday 💙

A huge thank you to the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service, who went above and beyond to support The Archie Foundation in 2025.

When extreme weather forced their original Three Peaks Challenge to be postponed, this incredible team didn’t give up. Instead, they took on a seriously tough alternative challenge using SFRS resources, climbing the ladder again and again to reach a staggering 3,000 metres.

Starting at around 9.45am, the team completed the challenge in just over three hours, climbing the ladder 56 times each, with three flights of stairs on every descent. An incredible physical and mental effort, all in support of children and families across the North of Scotland. Even Archie made an appearance to cheer them on!

Thank you to everyone involved and to all who donated so generously. We were delighted to welcome a part of the team to RACH just before Christmas for their cheque presentation. We are so grateful for the continued support shown by SFRS throughout the year, from fundraising events to bringing festive cheer to children in hospital.

We truly appreciate everything you do and are really looking forward to the year ahead together. 💙🚒

Are financial worries making it harder for your family to access the healthcare you need? 💙

The NHS offers excellent care, but sometimes it's not just a matter of health, it's the other struggles you can face before you even walk through the hospital doors.

At The Archie Foundation, we’re here to help break down those barriers. Our vision is simple: every child in our supported regions should have equal access to world-class healthcare and bereavement support.

When unexpected hospital admissions or ongoing treatment put strain on your finances, our Emergency Grants can help with:
- Travel costs
- Accommodation
- Essential clothing and toiletries
- Emergency financial support when it’s needed most

Your family’s wellbeing matters to us. If you’re struggling, please don’t hesitate to reach out.

Get in touch today to find out how we can support your family during a difficult time. We’re here for you💙

We are really proud to share one of our recent projects 💙🐻

The Pain Nurse from the Royal Aberdeen Children's Hospital approached us with an idea to create an updated pain scale using an Archie graphic – something that would make it easier for patients to explain how they are feeling.

Clare Mackie, the talented artist behind Archie, got straight to work bringing the idea to life, with Eyecandy Graphics producing the brilliant pain tool cards. They will now be distributed to teams across RACH and Dr Gray’s, helping young patients communicate their pain more clearly and confidently.

A simple idea, but one that will make a real difference every day 💙

Thank you to everyone involved in making this happen ✨

🎄✨ What a festive season it’s been ✨🎄

In the whirlwind that is Christmas, we wanted to pause for a moment and simply say… thank you 💙

This December, we’ve been completely overwhelmed by the kindness and generosity shown to The Archie Foundation. From the sponsorships and special visits throughout our Advent calendar, to the moments of festive joy that filled the hospital, you helped create truly magical memories for children spending Christmas in the hospital🎅

From the Christmas tree to our Giving Trees, toy drop-off locations, and everyone who donated toys at the hospital. Your support has enabled us to reach many families. Not just those in the hospital, but also children receiving home care, and families to whom Archie could extend some kindness 🎄

A special thank you as well for the beautiful festive knitting we received. Our team loved walking around the hospital handing these out and watching children’s faces light up as they chose one to keep and treasure🧶

And to our incredible volunteers, so much of what we do simply wouldn’t be possible without you. Thank you for giving your time, energy, and kindness to support our cause. Every one of you makes a bigger difference than you’ll ever know✨

From all of us at Archie, thank you to every single person who supported Christmas at Royal Aberdeen Children’s Hospital🤍

Our team is now taking a short festive break, but we’ll be back in 2026, ready to do even more, reach even further, and continue supporting children and families when they need it most💫

We had a visit last week that left us All Shook Up!

The fabulous Aberdeen Elvis Presley Fan Club gave us a call, and said they wanted to make sure no child in Royal Aberdeen Children's Hospital had a Blue Christmas. We knew it was Now Or Never, and didn't want to Return To Sender - so we said...

🎶 Thank you… thank you very much! 🎶

We just Can’t Help Falling In Love with the amazing group who came to donate lovely presents for the children in RACH. You turned what could’ve felt like a Heartbreak Hotel kind of day into one full of smiles, hope, and Burning Love.

If We Can Dream of a brighter day - it's people like you who help make it real. From all of us here at Archie - Love Us Tender hearts are overflowing with gratitude!

Thank you for being True Blue and making a real difference 💙

Meet Alfie and Ayden! These brilliant brothers have been fundraising in support of the Archie Foundation for the last few years - and this month they paid us a special visit with some lovely gifts for children in Royal Aberdeen Children's Hospital this Christmas.

Mum Kelly revealed that the boys have been making and selling "reindeer food" to raise money for these special gifts - we are so proud of them for having this great idea and doing something so kind. Thank you so much! 💙

🎄✨ From everyone at The Archie Foundation, we want to wish you a very Merry Christmas ✨🎄

From our fundraising team, to finance, management, trusts, projects, and our bereavement workers, every single person across Archie wanted to come together today to send love, thanks, and festive wishes to you all 💙

Throughout 2025, we’ve been incredibly proud to support babies, children, families, and the NHS across the North East. None of what we do would be possible without the kindness, generosity, and support of our amazing community💫

We truly hope you’ve all had a wonderful Christmas Day and that today has brought moments of joy🎅

Best wishes, Team Archie ❤️

Our Story

What do we do?

Since 1984 we have helped hundreds of families. Many spend a few days in the unit, while other babies need specialist care for longer. However long you are there it can be a worrying time, emotionally, physically and financially. All of the money that is donated and fundraised for Friends of the Neonatal Unit is used to benefit babies and their families during their stay and beyond. We have helped provide enhanced medical equipment, paediatric training & research, and family support for the parents and carers whose babies are in the unit.
