Welcome to the team.

Albyn Hospital welcomes Mr Mike Reidy, Consultant Paediatric Orthopaedic Surgeon to the team.

Mr Reidy trained in Glasgow and completed a fellowship at Alder Hey Children’s Hospital. Since 2019, he’s been a consultant at Royal Aberdeen Children’s Hospital and Woodend Hospital, specialising in paediatric orthopaedics with a focus on childhood hip and neuromuscular conditions.

Outside of medicine, Mr Reidy is a Trustee for The Archie Foundation, which is a children’s health charity making a difference for local children in Dundee, Aberdeen, Inverness and the surrounding areas.

Albyn Hospital proudly celebrates another major Mako milestone - the completion of our 2,000th Mako robotic-assisted surgery case.

This achievement makes Albyn Hospital the first single-robot hospital in the UK to reach this remarkable landmark!

The 2000th case was performed by Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon, Mr Martin Mitchell.

A huge thank you to our exceptional theatre team, clinical team, our patients, and not forgetting Stryker for making this possible.

Mr Manoj Kumar is a Consultant General and Upper Gastrointestinal Surgeon at Albyn Hospital. He has a special focus on treating gallstone diseases, gastro-oesophageal reflux disease (also known as heartburn or dyspepsia), and various types of hernias, including inguinal and complex abdominal wall hernias.

He is highly experienced in performing minimally invasive (keyhole or laparoscopic) surgeries for:
• Gallbladder removal (cholecystectomy)
• Surgery for acid reflux (laparoscopic fundoplication)
• Hernia repairs
• Abdominal wall reconstruction

Mr Kumar also provides expert care for a range of gastrointestinal issues and performs minor surgical procedures like removing lipomas and cysts.

Albyn Hospital is pleased to welcome Dr Angus Macleod, Consultant Neurologist to the team.

Dr Macleod has a broad expertise in diagnosing and managing disorders of the brain and nervous system. He has a particular subspecialty interest in movement disorders, including Parkinson’s disease, dystonia, tremor, and other involuntary movements. Known for his thoughtful, thorough, and compassionate approach, he is committed to helping patients find clear answers and effective treatment plans.

He is also an Honorary Consultant Neurologist with NHS Grampian and Senior Clinical Lecturer at the University of Aberdeen. A University of Aberdeen graduate with multiple honours, Dr Macleod also holds an MSc in Epidemiology and a PhD in Neurology.

In this short video, Mr Anastasios Giamouridis, Consultant Neurosurgeon, highlights that neck and back pain is extremely common, but when accompanied by leg and arm symptoms such as numbness and weakness, it could be due to nerve compression. Keyhole spinal surgery can be offered to treat nerve compression.
