New at Albyn Hospital: One-Stop Colposcopy Service.

We’re pleased to now offer a private one-stop colposcopy service at Albyn Hospital with Dr Rashmi Srivastava, Consultant Gynaecologist.

This streamlined service is designed to support timely assessment and management of individuals with abnormal cervical screening results or concerning symptoms. Where appropriate, patients can benefit from an initial consultation and colposcopy a single visit, helping to reduce anxiety, minimise delays and improve overall patient experience.

Please note: a GP referral is required prior to being seen by Dr Strivastava for a colposcopy.

Mr Chris Munro, Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at Albyn Hospital, explains the benefits of the minimally invasive direct anterior approach.

This muscle-sparing technique uses a small incision at the front of the thigh, helping to avoid cutting the muscles at the side of the hip. This often means a quicker recovery, with some patients back on their feet, walking unaided and even driving again within just 4 weeks.

Yesterday we shared Alison’s experience of having Direct Anterior Approach (DAA) hip surgery.

So what is DAA hip surgery?

It’s one of the most innovative approaches to hip replacement surgery and continues to shape the evolution of modern orthopaedic care. While it’s not suitable for everyone, it can offer some excellent benefits for the right patients:

- Muscle sparing technique: the incision is made at the front of the hip, allowing surgeons to work between muscles rather than cutting through them
- Less post operative pain: reduced tissue disruption can mean lower pain levels after surgery
- Faster recovery: many patients are able to get moving sooner with shorter hospital stays
- Improved function: patients often return to everyday activities more quickly
- Greater precision: when combined with Mako robotic assisted surgery, implant positioning can be optimised
