Cataracts are one of the most common causes of vision changes as we age. They happen when the clear lens inside your eye becomes cloudy, making things look blurry, hazy, or even giving you trouble with glare at night.
Recent reports suggest around 30% of people in the UK over the age of 65 have a cataract that impairs their vision in one or both eyes.
Signs of cataracts:
• Blurred or cloudy vision
• Colours looking faded
• Difficulty seeing at night
• Sensitivity to bright lights
Cataracts can be treated safely with modern surgery – often restoring clear vision and improving quality of life. Our Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeons at Albyn Hospital routinely carry out cataract surgery.
If cataracts are affecting your daily life, book a consultation with one of our Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeons to see if you are suitable for cataract surgery. A patient attending a consultation for cataract surgery is required to have an IOL Biometry Scan (additional charge).
You can ask your optometrist for a referral, or you can self-refer and book a consultation with any of our Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeons.
