❄️ The cold weather is well & truly here, try to protect yourself from injury with these tips 🥶
As the temperatures drop your body will feel the change. Here’s how it can impact your muscles & joints and what you can do to try & stay injury free:
❄️ Why does it increase injury risk?
🥶 Tighter muscles; the cold can cause the muscles to stiffen up, which reduces your mobility & flexibility and could result in sprains and strains
🧊 Joint stiffness; the colder temperatures can make joint pain worse, especially if you have an old injury or arthritis
🥶 Slower warm ups; when it’s cold it takes longer for your body to warm up and therefore loosen up which increases the risk of pulling/hurting something if you skip your warm up/prep
✨ Tips to prevent injury & stay active:
💫 Warm up for longer: spend more time on light cardio & dynamic stretching before jumping into your activity
💫 Layer up; wear layers to help keep your muscles warm especially if you’re outside
💫 Hydrate; even in the colder months your body still needs water to perform at your best
💫 Listen to your body; stiff or sore?? Stop and reassess, pushing through can make things worse or result in injury.
