Staying active and engaged is important for everyone, but it can be especially meaningful for people living with dementia.

Some key strategies and activities that may help your loved one keep their mind engaged and active include:

🎵 Remembrance and Emotional Connection
Activities that spark memories and encourage conversation may be deeply comforting. Look through photo albums, listen to music, or discuss past experiences.

🚶‍♀️ Gentle Movement
Light physical activity may support both physical and cognitive wellbeing. Simple exercises such as walking, stretching, chair yoga, or dancing are good options.

🧹 Purposeful Tasks and Independence
Purposeful, everyday tasks may help people living with dementia feel more independent and in control. Activities like folding laundry, sorting items, or setting the table support routine and offer a sense of achievement.

It’s not uncommon for a loved one to resist care, even when it’s clear they need a little extra support. These moments can be emotional, frustrating, and difficult to navigate. ❤️‍🩹

It’s important to remember, however, that resistance often stems from fear, pride, or uncertainty. Approaching the situation with patience, empathy, and understanding can make all the difference.

Some approaches that you could use when navigating care conversations include:
👨‍👩‍👦‍👦 Bring the family and even close friends together for the discussion.
❤️ Focus on your loved one’s needs, not on what may be difficult or declining.
🍽️ Start small to make the idea of care feel less daunting.
👨‍⚕️ Reach out to professionals for valuable guidance and insight.
💬 Take advantage of breathing room and revisit the conversation at a later date.

🎉 A very special birthday 🎉

Last week we had the absolute honour of celebrating our client Mr Glennie as he turned 100 years old.

Mr Glennie is one of Scotland’s last surviving D-Day veterans and a proud Gordon Highlander. On his birthday he was presented with a British Empire Medal in recognition of more than 30 years of volunteering at the Gordon Highlanders Museum, a true testament to his character.

Surrounded by family, friends and plenty of smiles Mr Glennie marked his big day with music & laughter.

We are so proud to support Mr Glennie and privileged to play a small part in his life ❤️

Please join us in wishing him a very happy 100th birthday 🎂🎈

Celebrating one of our cherished customers 100th Birthday, what an amazing day 🥳☺🥳☺
Isobel was born and brought up in Scone, she is an only child and upon leaving school at the age of 14, she took up a career in office administration. During the war, Isobel took up the position of a rural butcher for a local firm and continued to cover, during holiday periods, once the war was over and the men returned. Latterly, Isobel worked in the Perthshire Advertiser, where she was well known for persuading businesses to buy space in some new advertising features she thought up. Following her retirement, Isobel went to Dundee College for 3 years, where she completed her City and Guilds in floral art and design, which led onto her judging and providing demonstrations at local groups and shows. Isobel continues to enjoy flower arranging and has recently taken an interest in garden plant pots. Isobel is a very sociable lady and enjoys browsing around shops, in particular antique/ charity shops, she also enjoys reading and going out for coffee.

Isobel said “there’s a lot you don’t remember, and there’s a lot you want to remember, but I must admit, I’ve had a happy life.”
