🔨 We are pleased to announce that work commenced today with SAM Joinery on the development of a new suite of healthcare clinics at Charles Michies Pharmacy, 391 Union Street, Aberdeen.

💚 These facilities will broaden the scope of services available in the city centre, with provision for:
• A wide range of vaccinations
• Ear care and hearing diagnostics
• Healthcare diagnostics / phlebotomy
• Foothealth / Podiatry
• And additional specialist services in due course.

This investment reflects our long-term commitment to enhancing access to healthcare on the high street and supporting the wider regeneration of Union Street and city centre.

We are actively seeking to engage with healthcare professionals who would like to bring their specialist skills into this new setting. If you are interested in joining our team, we encourage you to connect with us at this stage of the project.

Further updates will be shared as progress continues.

🗣️ Many thanks to John Corall for his captivating presentation yesterday for our ABERDEEN TALKS series at Michies Union Street.

John delivered a fascinating and thought-provoking story about the Denburn – Aberdeen’s Banished Burn.

He covered hundreds of years of history right up to the present day and how this small stream that once flowed openly through the heart of Aberdeen, shaped much of the city’s development.

For centuries, the burn provided water for domestic use, industry, and local mills. As Aberdeen expanded in the 18th and 19th centuries, the Denburn became increasingly polluted due to rapid industrialisation and poor sanitation. This led to growing public health concerns and political debates about how to manage it.

By the late 19th century, large sections of the Denburn were culverted (covered over), with roads and railway developments built above it. Today, the burn still flows beneath parts of the city, hidden from view, yet it remains a subject of historical interest and local identity — a reminder of how Aberdeen’s landscape and community have changed over time.
