Class to raise money for
Tuesday 6-7:30pm on Zoom, all links to donate and join in my bio.
Suggested donation £5-£20.

Expect some mantra, some movement you can make as challenging or gentle as you like and some Yoga nidra to round things off.

If you would just like to just donate, you're very welcome to do that too. But there is something pretty important about gathering with others to strengthen the muscles of kindness, compassion and delight so you can maintain your equanimity and take action in the face of injustice.

Hello from my air bnb in Exeter :)

Again, it's been a while eh?

15 years ago I started practicing Yoga.

14 years ago I worked in Cardiology & Acute Medicine as an axillary nurse & healthcare support worker. It opened my eyes to how unfair life can be and how that impacts your health.

13 years ago I did my first YTT & passionately felt that what I had learned & continue to learn would help those patients I saw in the hospital.

10 years ago I did my MSc in Exercise Medicine & wished that Doctors got the chance to learn what I was learning.

8 years ago I started my medical degree.

3 years ago I started working as a junior doctor. I don't know how to describe in words the wealth of experience the last 11 years have given me (and all my fellow health practitioners). I am inspired daily by people who share so much of themselves to care for others & am uplifted by the colleagues that are working to make healthcare a more loving & sustainable place for staff, patients and the planet. I also have endless compassion for the people who are burnt out & grumpy. I spent good time there too.

This year I started training as a public health doctor.

This week I started my Masters of Public Health.

This is my Yoga practice. To learn more, do more and collaborate more to make the world a more equitable, just and flourishing place.

Everything else is just a tool to keep steady and sane while doing the above.

This is a little reminder to you (& me) that Yoga practice isn't a demonstration of physical skill. It isn't a demonstration of academic flair. It's the fibre of your heart.

You can't take a photo or get a certificate for that.

My physical practice has fairly plateaued over these last 3-5 years. But my Yoga practice. Heck. It doesn't stop unfolding. And all the academic stuff... well I have to do it (& I'm very lucky to be able to do it).

I am so grateful to every single yogi for showing up to class over the last 13 years & literally funding all of the above while being the motivation to keep going.

Thankfully the NHS has got this next degree for me 😉

P.s. soon can we do some little y yoga together again so we can all keep doing our big Y stuff?

THE ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT OF PRESCRIBING WITH DR SHARON PFLEGER

As part of Climate Week North-East Dr Sharon Pfleger will be joining us at The University of Aberdeen to speak about the environmental impact of prescribing. She’ll be joining us on Monday 27th March from 12-1pm to open climate week at The Suttie Centre on Aberdeen Royal Infirmary campus. You can join us in person or sign up to watch online or view the recording later :)

This talk is going to be helpful and interesting to anyone who prescribes or takes medicine! So do join us and PLEASE SHARE AND SPREAD THE WORD. These talks are open to healthcare workers across all NHS boards.

Here is some more info about the talk:

Come along and hear how medicines we use for our patients are actually helping to make our planet sicker and what we can do about it. Sharon will cover the Net Zero agenda and carbon emissions from medicines, the pharmaceutical pollution of our environment, in particular our water environment and then tell us how we can make small changes to our practice to make healthcare more sustainable whilst improving the health of our population and our planet.

Happy New Year glorious people.

I hope you have hope you have made it through the festive season in whatever way works best for you! I have been very grateful this year to enjoy some peace and the company of family and friends. I am looking forward to slowly blossoming in to 2023.

I am never one for huge resolutions or big changes at the beginning of the year but just quiet thoughts that come in to fruition through the year with time, effort and consistency :)

This year the beginning of January is especially quiet on the yoga teaching front as I have two exams this coming week(!!!) which are quite important for my little future so you won’t see me back on the mat until the week beginning the 16th.

I’m planning on doing things a little differently with regard to teaching this year, I’ll share some more info soon. But what I can tell you now is that I am exceptionally excited to be running a beginners course at starting 16th Jan. I will of course keep going with some regular weekly drop in classes and will be teaching more regular workshops on a bi-monthly basis to help whet the appetite of those who would like to learn about yoga in a little more depth.

Anyway, that’s enough from me now. Back to the books (pictures of me studying in a giant hoodie are much less enticing than me and my dog sister out in the sun)! I can’t wait to see you once this week is done and for us all to be uplifted by the joy and stability of yoga practice together.

All my Love,
Laura

I am excited to be back in Aberdeen. And I am grateful for the passing of the autumn equinox – the moment that marks the nights being longer than the days. An invitation to move a little slower, close the door behind you, slide the draught excluder in to place and wrap a blanket around your shoulders. Although two autumn equinoxes have passed since I was last in Aberdeen, this is the first time I feel able to fully lean into this permission to rest, release the company of partygoers and festival friends and nestle back into the warm familiarity of core community. My energy is truly spent, and this autumn and winter I look forward to filling up with the joy of familiar company and nourishing practices.

I have been daydreaming about Yoga and Meditation offerings for this Autumn as we settle into the rhythm of a new season. It was wonderful to have such a positive response to bringing back online Yoga and Meditation. It brings me a lot of joy to connect with Yoga family across cities and countries! I plan for morning meditation to taste like a warm cup of cocoa and for yoga to feel like a sating bowl of spiced sweet potato.

We’ll have a ‘trial’ or ‘intro’ week this week with Meditation from 8-8:20am Monday, Wednesday and Friday and Community Yoga from 6:15-7:30pm on Tuesday. I’ll have a full week to gather some feedback and then we’ll start in full form from the 3rd of October.

And of course, there will hopefully be smatterings of in person Aberdeen classes and even workshops. If there are wee chances to teach in Edinburgh and Glasgow too, I’d love to snap ‘em up.

Sending lots of Love yogis, keep in touch and I’ll see you soon. Thank you for all you do 🧡
