Having diabetes can affect your feet π¦Ά
If you have diabetes here are some tips to keeping your feet healthy. With NHS podiatry being offered less and less going private is the only way to keep your feet healthy & well looked after
1. Check your feet everyday or have a family member or caregiver do this for you - keep an eye for cuts, scratches, blisters, Corns, Callus or any changes to the skin. Using a mirror under the foot can also help with this.
2. Wash your feet everyday - in warm water. Don't soak them and ensure they are dried fully. Finish off with a lotion that contains at least 10% Urea.
3. Never go barefoot - this helps decrease the likelihood of trauma to the feet due to potential neuropathy.
4. Wear shoes that fit correctly.
5. Keep the blood flowing - put your feet up when you sit and wiggle your toes for several minutes.
6. Don't try to remove Corns, callus, or try to cut nails yourself ( if you struggle ) - Some over the counter medicaments can cause more harm than good.
7. Get your feet checked regularly - contact your local foot health professional for a full examination and neuropathy (sensation) test
