Our Story
Ogston Surgical Society is a society at the University of Aberdeen, named in honour of Aberdeen Graduate and Surgeon Sir Alexander Ogston. A student of medicine and surgeon at the University of Aberdeen, Ogston had a keen interest in military surgery and in 1882 he was appointed Regius Professor in Surgery at Aberdeen University. He is famous for his discovery of Staphylococcus aureus, better known as MRSA.
Our society aims to promote surgery as a career to medical students and junior doctors via various events including interactive workshops, courses, conferences and revision evenings. We have a rich belief that surgery is for anyone, irrespective of your background, and should not be thought of as a career solely for an elite group of society. We welcome everyone to take part in our events and hope to created a down to earth enthusiasm for surgery!
