🎶 🌳 In our music therapy sessions, we use a range of resources to ensure activities are engaging and tailored to each client’s needs.

One resource Nadine has used with her clients is the book Wild Symphony, which introduces a variety of animals, each representing a different instrument from the orchestral family. The book is supported by an accompanying app that plays a different orchestral piece for each animal and instrument. This creates a multi-sensory experience by combining storytelling, visuals, and music, helping clients explore and recognise different orchestral sounds.

Using resources such as this supports engagement, encourages active listening, and allows clients to interact with music in a creative and accessible way. 🐭🐘🦛

Anna MacEachern has been working with ELM since September 2025 and has been a wonderful addition to the ELM team.

Anna’s first instrument is voice, second is violin and she enjoys playing ukulele and a variety of percussive instruments. Within music therapy sessions Anna engages with a variety of different instruments and styles to work with clients’ interests. Anna takes a flexible approach to sessions and often finds a combination of music, art and movement is sometimes used.

Anna has been utilising all of these skills during her time so far with ELM. She has been working in ASN nursery and school bases, with individual adult and child clients at home and at the Royal Aberdeen Children's hospital where Anna has quickly become an integral member of the Play Service team. Anna has also been working with The Team Jack Foundation running their weekly Team Jam session as well as individual sessions and with local charity Sereniti running a weekly online session.

Anna aims to create an environment where individuals feel comfortable expressing themselves and connecting creatively. Anna is excited to be working with ELM and expanding her experience with new client groups and settings.

Nadine has been working as a music therapist with ELM now for over 6 years in Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire North and South. During her time with ELM she has gained experience with a variety of different client groups that she has established strong partnerships with.

Nadine’s main instruments are violin and piano, however she primarily likes to use guitar within her music therapy work. She also enjoys using music technology to connect with her clients and support their expression in different ways.

In 2021, Nadine began working in collaboration with charity Barnardos to provide group music therapy sessions for young carers across Aberdeen. This partnership has continued to grow and Nadine has provided group and 1-1 music therapy sessions for young carers both in and outside of school settings.

Nadine has also worked at Royal Cornhill Hospital in Aberdeen providing music therapy sessions on the Eden Unit, for patients with eating disorders. She worked closely with the multidisciplinary team to provide 1-1 sessions for patients on the ward as well as sessions online for patients who had been discharged and were transitioning back home. Nadine feels passionate about music therapy within the mental health field.

Nadine also has a variety of experience working in different school settings and is now working at special education school Orchard Brae as their music therapist. She primarily works 1-1 or in small groups with pupils across the school who have Profound Multiple Learning Disabilities (PMLD).

Nadine loves working with private clients in the home setting and building strong relationships with both clients and their families. She currently works with numerous private clients with ASN, autism and has also gained experience of working with a client for stroke rehabilitation.

Since working with ELM, Nadine has completed her Makaton training levels and is passionate about incorporating signing into her work. She has experience running Makaton choirs online with ELM as well as group sessions within schools. She is also interested in learning BSL sign language to support her clients further where appropriate.
