WHY YOU DON’T NEED TO BELIEVE IN ACUPUNCTURE?
Because it works even without your belief.

Acupuncture is not “magic”, shamanism or “energy balancing”. It is a science-based neurophysiological effect on the body.

Acupuncture is included in NHS recommendations as an adjunct therapy in certain cases, e.g. in chronic pain (especially tension-type headaches and migraines), as well as for some musculoskeletal conditions including back pain.

Acupuncture:
✅ influences pain signal transmission (pain pathways)
✅ modulates the central nervous system
✅ changes how the brain interprets pain

Without going too deep, but I'd like to make a very important point about PAIN:
❌ Pain does NOT always mean structural damage
❌ Pain intensity does NOT always reflect the level and severity of tissue damage
✔️ Your mood, emotions and thoughts have a DIRECT impact on how strongly you feel pain
✔️ Pain is your body’s way of trying to protect you. Pain equals protection.

Chronic pain is increasingly understood as a dysfunction of central nervous system processing and brain networks disorder.

In long-term chronic pain, the initial tissue damage has already healed. However, the nervous system “learnt" to feel pain. The brain continues to send signals as if the problem still exists.

This is called central sensitisation. And this is exactly where acupuncture can be very beneficial.

(There is a lot of fascinating research on this topic. Pain itself is incredibly complex, a branch of science on its own.)

Functional MRI studies have shown that during acupuncture, significant processes occur in the brain:
🧠 activation of brain areas involved in pain modulation
🧠 reduced activity in certain pain networks
🧠 increased release of endorphins (natural painkillers)
🧠 influence on the autonomic nervous system (activating the parasympathetic “rest & digest” state and deactivating the sympathetic “fight or flight” response)

I have personally observed how during acupuncture, a stressed patient’s eye pupils constrict, which may indicate activation of the parasympathetic nervous system and destressing, relaxing.

I have also noticed many times that the biggest skeptics often get the best results and ask:
“what did you just do to me, why it doesn’t hurt anymore?”

---
Funkciniai MRT tyrimai parodė, kad akupunktūros metu smegenyse vyksta reikšmingi procesai:
🧠 aktyvuojasi smegenų sritys, susijusios su skausmo moduliacija
🧠 mažėja aktyvumas tam tikruose skausmo tinkluose
🧠 skatinamas endorfinų (natūralių analgetikų) išsiskyrimas
🧠 veikiama autonominė nervų sistema (aktyvinama parasimpatinė „rest & digest“ būsena ir slopinama simpatinė „fight or flight“)

„ką tu čia man padarei, kad nebeskauda?“

Tad jeigu ir Tu nori pasikonsultuoti, sužinoti daugiau informacijos ar užsirašyti akupunktūrai, prašau parašyk man asmeninę žinutę 💌

Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) talks about Balance as the fundamental Foundation of Health.

TCM is based on several key principles with the cornerstone being balance and harmony. This means that, according to TCM, health depends on the balance of Yin and Yang which are the opposing but complementary energies that must coexist in harmony. In Western medicine, an analogy could be and we might call this homeostasis which means a normal, balanced state of being in which the body functions optimally.

As TCM states, when something is in excess for a prolonged period, the body eventually starts to struggle and begins to feel unwell. A very common example is intense mental work. Think about periods of intense studying, exam preparation and writing several coursework all in one. While you are doing it, you often feel unstoppable having full focus, full power, giving 100% and more of your energy. But once it’s over, the body really responds. The next morning after the exam and deadlines, you wake up feeling completely drained, heavy, unable to move, having joint pain, muscle aches, headaches or even migraines. Have you experienced anything like this?

One day you feel like you could move mountains and the next, you feel totally exhausted, sore and almost hopeless in your body. This is overexertion. In western medicine including neurological rehab, we call it ''pacing'' and it is explained by science. Meaning we do things in small episodes, we spread our workload, household chores etc. Myself I am in love with this and trying to imlement in my daily life. So both TCM and Wester Medicine agrees that it is very important to maintain a healthy work–life balance and if we fail, the body will take what it needs by force which is rest and sleep. And good nutrition, obviously.

So if you can’t stop yourself, don’t worry your body will absolutely let you know when it is time to slow down. As simple as it sounds, TCM is built on this understanding.

Acupuncture is a traditional Chinese medicine practice that involves inserting very thin needles into specific points on the body to promote healing and balance. It is based on the concept of Qi, which is believed to be the body’s vital energy flowing through specific pathways called meridians. When Qi is blocked or unbalanced, it can lead to illness or pain, hence acupuncture aims to restore its proper flow and helps the body return to balance.

There is an increasing number of evidence in modern research on acupuncture which supports the idea that acupuncture may help boost the body’s natural painkillers, reregulating the nervous system and improving blood flow.
It’s often used to treat conditions such as:

-Chronic pain (back, neck or joint pain)
-Migraines and headaches
-Stress and anxiety
-Insomnia
-Digestive issues

Sessions usually last 20–40 minutes and a course of at least 4 sessions is required because the benefits are accumulative. Most people describe the sensation as mild tingling, warmth or pressure rather than pain.

If you would like to find out more or register for a consultation, please get in touch via private message.

We are based in the city centre of Aberdeen.
