The balcony garden designed by Ollie Pike was just so fabulous and shows that small spaces can be created into the most magical of places. Ollie you definitely got our vote.

Well the rain and cold has definitely been a little relentless recently, the Vegetables definitely are not that keen on the current weather, but the Trees love it, making it an excellent time to plant out young sapling. However fingers crossed the sun ☀️ will shine soon.

The cuckoo is always such a welcome sign of summer, this once common uk visitor has suffered startling decline since the 80’s and is now a conservation red listed bird.
It does however have a distinctive lack of parental responsibility, it sneakily lays its egg in much smaller birds nest (like the meadow pipit) boots out or eats at least one of the brood of eggs - leaving the poor unsuspecting surrogate parent to bring up a significantly larger hatchling then they where ever expecting.

Can’t wait to create something truly amazing with this beech. Thank you so much to Dougie, Ross and Gorden for all their hard work, also sorry to the little chap who we disturbed.

Nature is the most amazing cathedral, offering us the biggest of views that can stretch for miles and miles - BUT there is also a whole world at our feet, one that can be seen in minute detail - just take a minute, to look at your feet regardless of where you are, there will be in some nook of a pavement, cranny of a wall, path or lane a little flower that offers hope and holds the whole universe within it.

Firstly - we are aware that dogs and stones are not a good match and stones shouldn’t be thrown for dog - BUT Bracken will drive, dig and do almost anything for a stone.
A Holy jumper, is a must, it’s that favourite jumper that tells a story and no mater what there no way you would ever part with it - a holy jumper is to be loved and cherished.

Silver Birch make wonderful inventive pea support and with Laura creative ideas check out juniper press - we are busy harvesting lots of fallen branches to make into fabulous structures tomorrow with Caroline.
The last three weeks with Laura and Alan, Amy and Henry and now Caroline have been an utter JOY.

As humans we often wish for things, but it is the magic of connecting with nature where wishes are heard.

We have been so unbelievably touched and humbled by the response we have had, to last week’s post, offering a working holiday.

What has stood out to Hamish and I most of all, is not only the stories that have been shared but the desire to reconnect with nature and learn.

To that end we are now offering 5, 1 week placements that we will be confirming in the next couple of days.

Laura will be the first and we can’t wait to welcome her and share the journey with you.

What Hamish and I have decided to do moving forward is to offer this opportunity every year.

Does anyone fancy a free working holiday - we are currently going through our licensing to allow us to rent our second shepherds hut out as a holiday let BUT we thought whilst we are waiting it might be a great opportunity to offer a free working holiday to help us in the garden, so if you have a passion for gardening naturally and fancy a trip to highland Perthshire then please let us know.
The hut sleeps 2 and is self contained and we are offering it to the right person or couple for:
7-10 night with 5 days working 2 day off and if you are staying 10 days then it’s 7 days working 3 days off
Self catered
You need to make your own way here
please email Hamish on hamish@tombanefarm.co.uk if you are interested.
