Your skin is as individual as the rest of you, so why should your skincare routine be otherwise?
Today I met with a lovely lady who’s developed Rosacea over the past 2 years and wanted to find a simple routine that didn’t irritate or aggravate her skin but would leave it feeling softly moisturised and hydrated whilst also calming any redness that sometimes appeared.
After some discussion we established that this may not be a stand alone inflammatory skin response but part of a bigger picture of age related health concerns… hello perimenopause! 😏 So our discussion widened to embrace nutrition, cortisol response management (basically stress!), seed cycling (eating different seeds during different parts of the menstrual cycle), fasting, gut health and hormone imbalance symptoms, of which skin changes can be one.
But returning back to skincare… it’s also important to remember that sometimes less really is more… just because the standard beauty industry advice is to use a multitude of products and always to cleanse, tone and moisturise, this has to be viewed against the backdrop of someone’s individual lifestyle and preferences. If you don’t wear make-up, have sensitive skin or a condition like Rosacea, don’t have time or the inclination for a full routine and find it stress inducing rather than relaxing, then what you need are a few specific targeted products rather than a shelf full of pointless ones you’re unlikely to use.
Take into consideration whether you prefer to use water to cleanse or not, what scents and textures you like and most importantly what ingredients will suit your skin type and condition.
Today we settled on the following:-
💜 Calendula Cleanser - a gentle and soothing cream cleanser which can be rinsed off the skin with warm water. Also perfect for dry and sensitive skin.
💜 Mahonia Clear Skin Booster - whilst this product is not what you might think of using initially as it’s intended primarily for skin blemishes, acne, and open pores, Mahonia is a botanical ingredient recognised for its potential to soothe skin redness, inflammation and sensitivity and this one comes as a lovely gel which can also be kept in the fridge to give an extra cooling and soothing effect when applied to the skin.
💜 Oat and Ceramide Barrier Repair Cream - a relatively new addition to the Neal’s Yard range, this is a gorgeous buttery soft cream which is super hydrating whilst at the same time being barrier repairing due to the prebiotics it contains which help to strengthen the skin’s natural defences. Fragrance and alcohol free, this one is both luxurious and hard working at the same time.
💜 Wild Rose Moisturising SPF 30 - this offers UVA/UVB protection whilst at the same time being a 100% mineral sun filter. Anti-oxidant rich, packed with organic ingredients including wild Rosehip seed oil and balancing organic essential oils, this is the perfect surface finish for sun exposed days… not a lot of those here at the moment in the UK but perfect if you are shortly off to warmer climates like my client today.
I always offer the opportunity to take samples away to try for a week or two, or of course you can order whatever you like on the spot ☺️
