What do I mean rupture? And how do we heal after rupture? There are many ways to feel this diconnection and severance from the land, from ourselves, from spirit and from our roots. It's time to collect these fragmented parts of ourselves and piece them back together. Only as whole beings are we strong enough to push back against these systems of domination, which are all around us.

How do plants help people reconnect to place after displacement?

I have been thinking about this question a lot lately, as more and more people become displaced and will become displaced. I feel that plants have a huge role to play in reconnecting people not only to their old land and helping to heal their trauma and sence of loss, but also to connect and settle into their new land and life. I am currently deep into researching Anglo-Saxon healing for my dissertation in the History of Medicine, and was fortunate enough to be able to visit and spend time with the amazing healing manuscripts from the Anglo-Saxon era around 950 CE (!) in the British Library. It felt really exciting to be able to sit with and hold this amazing piece of our herbal history.

There are four manuscripts in the Library which make up the main body of evidence remaining of the medical texts from this time, and therefore provide the best insight into healing in early medieval England - Balds Leechbook I & II, Leechbook III, the Lacnunga & The Old English Herbarium.

Solidarity with those fleeing war zones and watching their lands from afar. These herbal teas - (Zhourat and Damnoosh) were made for the SWANA community - Iran, Lebabnon, Palestine, Syria, Afghanistan....they have been made to calm the nervous and digestive systems and have been sent to asylum seekers for support during these on going stressful times.

Explore real herbal medicines and the ingredients, both strange and familiar, evoking the working world of an eighteenth-century Scottish healer. Drawing directly from surviving herbal receipt books, the display explores traditional Scots plant remedies for ailments of body and mind, from simples and syrups to poultices and distilled waters. Visitors can discover how remedies were prepared, stored and prescribed, and learn about the women and household practitioners who safeguarded this knowledge. An immersive, evidence-based interpretation of Scotland’s living medicinal heritage that survives in the herbal healing arts today.

The UK Government has tightened its regulatory rules on herbal medicines with its recent enforcement of the Novel Food Act. This states that any substance that was not consumed in the UK, or EU, before 15 May 1997 is a novel food.....currently it is affecting the sale of Turkey Tail and Cordyceps...
