If you give birth in January or February 2026, you may be invited to provide feedback as part of a confidential survey about mothers’ recent experiences of antenatal care, labour and birth, and postnatal care. This is part of a national programme to improve experiences of maternity services. We would be grateful if you can spare the time to fill in survey and provide your valuable feedback about your experience to help us to make improvements to NHS maternity services. Where is my village?
If you're reading this in the thick of it, wondering where this so-called village is… I see you.

So many of us move away from family for work.
We build lives somewhere new.
Then we have a baby and suddenly realise… we’re doing this without the support we imagined we’d have.

When I had Ethan during COVID, I felt grateful for the bubble we had. Jonnie was home. Harry was homeschooling. I wasn’t physically alone.

But when life went back to normal — school runs resumed and Jonnie returned to work — the days suddenly stretched ahead of me.
I remember thinking:
What now?

The days felt long.
Relentless.
A little like Groundhog Day.
I felt lonely. Overwhelmed. Nervous about going to baby groups.

But I felt the fear… and I did it anyway.
I walked into rooms not knowing anyone.
I said yes to coffee.
I made small talk when I wanted to run home.
And slowly — my village began to form.
Women who understood the broken sleep.
The feeding worries.
The identity shift.
The “why does this feel so hard?” days.
This is exactly why I teach my classes today.
To make sure no new mum ever feels alone in those early weeks.

If you’re looking for your village — or simply an excuse to get out of the house — join me for the next 5 weeks of Postnatal Mum & Baby Yoga for:
Gentle movement.
Breathing space.
And mums who just get it.

MumAndBaby YouAreNotAlone

14/02/2026

This profound message from made me think of how motherhood is showing us something we may have forgotten:
You are enough. 🤍

If you watch anything today, let it be this.

It reminded me that life is fragile and that love is what remains.

And that who we are underneath it all matters more than what we do.

We define ourselves by what we achieve, produce, accomplish.

The job title.
The degree.
The milestones.
The comparison.

And then we become a mum and this shifts everything.

The roles change.
The pace changes.
Your identity feels unfamiliar.

And suddenly you're left wondering:
Who am I now?
Am I doing enough?
Am I enough?

We tell ourselves,
“When this phase passes…”
“When I get back to work…”
“When I feel like myself again…”

Remember, grief doesn’t only exist in death.
It can live in transition.
In the letting go of a former self.
And that grief deserves compassion, not judgment.

As James Van Der Beek so profoundly said:
You are worthy of love.

Remember, no one is born unworthy.
So think, when did you decide you were?

If you are in the thick of motherhood…
Slower than before.
Different than before.
Unsure some days.

Remember:
You are not behind.
You are not less.
You have not lost yourself.
You are exactly where you need to be.

Today, especially, I hope you let yourself rest in this truth —
You are enough.
You do enough.
You are worthy of love.

RIP James Van Der Beek

Catastrophising thoughts in the 4th trimester are incredibly common — especially when you’re sleep deprived, carrying the mental load, or feeling responsible for a tiny human 24/7.

But here’s the part most people don’t tell you:
When your nervous system is in fight/flight, your brain is designed to scan for danger.
So those worst-case thoughts aren’t a personal failure — they’re a stress response.

🐝 Bee Breath (Bhramari pranayama) is one of the simplest ways to interrupt the spiral because it works through the body first:
✔️ longer exhale
✔️ vagus nerve stimulation
✔️ nervous system downshift
✔️ mind has a single point of focus

Try it for 30 seconds the next time you feel yourself spiralling — and notice what changes.
Save this for later 🤍

If you want to learn these tools in a safe space with other mums going through similar, join me for the next term at Postnatal Mum & Baby Yoga.

LAST CHANCE TO BOOK
BIRTH PARTNER SKILLS WORKSHOP - Prepare for birth together.

What we will cover:

Together we will spend some time talking about your fears, your beliefs and how your birth partner feels so that you can become crystal clear on what is holding you back from getting the birth experience you dream of.

We're going to dive deep and uncover the blocks and then you’re going to work together to devise a birth plan that you are both on board with so that you can handle any scenario that unfolds.

Because until you uncover your blocks you can’t step into the calm and confident team that you are.

You’ve read all the books

You’ve watched the YouTube videos

Scrolled endlessly on your socials, reading everyone's opinions on birth but you’re feeling like there’s something missing.

You’re feeling overwhelmed and just want concise easily digestible information that you can sub consciously and instinctively remember whilst birthing your baby. (no one is getting a textbook out whist in transition, are they?).

You know there is more for you to learn, to practice, to uncover and you deserve more. You want to feel supported, for your birth partner to be fully invested in your birth preparation and to understand your birth wishes so that they can advocate for you in the moment, to help you stay grounded even when things aren’t going to plan, allowing you to completely stay in your oxytocin bubble.

That’s what this workshop is about.

Not “getting through” birth but meeting it with conviction, connection and trust in your birth partner with the practical support allowing you to birth with confidence.

Imagine walking into labour knowing:

• How to move your body to help labour progress so that you don’t burn out before you get into active labour.
• How to work with contractions instead of bracing against them so you aren’t afraid of the sensations.
• How your pelvis and baby work together in case they are finding it difficult to navigate and aren’t in an optimal fetal position, making labout more painforl for you.
• That your birth partner isn’t guessing — they’re actively supporting you because they’ve understood your wishes and understand how to confidently advocate for you in the maternity system.
• That you have tools to come back to calm, even when it’s intense so that you can float off to another dimension without screaming for an epidural.

So that when labour unfolds, you and your birth partner don’t feel panicked and disconnected, you understand all the stages of labour, you fully understand and trust each other, allowing you to actually enjoy the experience together.

This workshop is for you if…

You’re pregnant (ideally from 28 weeks onwards)

You want practical, embodied tools, not just theory/classroom vibes

You want your birth partner to feel confident, invested and committed as you are so that you don’t have to keep explaining or relaying information.

You’re drawn to physiological birth, movement and biomechanics

You want preparation that supports your body and nervous system

You want a calm, non-judgemental space where all choices are respected so that you can make decisions that are right for you.

This is not about rigid birth plans.

You already understand that birth is unpredictable (it’s been drummed into you from a young age) — but you know that doesn’t mean you have to feel powerless.

This workshop helps you understand how birth works, so you can adapt, respond, and feel more in control even when things change.

When you understand:

how your pelvis moves

how your baby navigates your body

how positioning, gravity and movement influence labour

how your partner can physically and emotionally support you

everything shifts.

Fear softens.
Confidence grows.
And birth becomes something you actively participate in — not something that just happens to you and you go along with.

You'll both learn about advocacy, birth rights and how to navigate the maternity system so that you can communicate your desires with confidence.

What makes this workshop different

Most birth preparation focuses on information.

This focuses on embodied confidence.

You don’t just learn what helps —
you feel it, practise it, and experience it together.

Your body learns.
Your partner learns.
So when labour starts, it isn’t the first time you’ve tried these tools.

What you’ll explore together (and what it gives you)

🌀 Biomechanics for Birth

Understand how alignment, gravity and movement create space in the pelvis —
so you can support labour progress and reduce unnecessary struggle.

🤍 Rebozo Techniques

Gentle, supportive techniques to release tension and encourage comfort —
so labour feels more manageable and supported.

🤝 Birth Partner Support

Clear, practical guidance for hands-on and emotional support —
so your partner knows exactly how to help, advocate and stay calm.

🧘 Pregnancy-Safe Movement & Yoga for Labour

Positions for early labour, active labour and transition —
so you’re not wondering “what do I do now?” when contractions build.

🌬 Breathing Techniques

Simple, effective breathwork —
so you can regulate your nervous system, cope with intensity and stay present.

📚 Evidence-Based Education

Clear explanations of how labour unfolds —
so you understand what’s happening in your body and why.

You’ll also receive printable handouts to take home to practice everything you've learned.

By the end of the workshop, you can expect to:

Feel calmer and more confident about birth

Trust your body and its ability to birth

Have practical tools for comfort, coping and progression

Feel deeply supported by your birth partner

Approach birth as a connected, capable team
