Blwyddyn Newydd Dda! 🎉 Happy New Year!

❄️ These snowy times have been the perfect time to reflect on the closing year and plan for the adventures ahead in 2026 ✨️...

2025 highs included:
🔶️ Starting to deliver forest school sessions to families at Dafydd’s Wood
🔶️ Having the pleasure of leading forest school sessions for over 100 5-6year olds.
🔶️ Being lucky enough to lead 20 forest school taster sessions for mixed groups of primary school aged children-with many children returning for a 2nd time + with a waiting list in anticipation of the 2026 taster sessions! 🤩
🔶️ Contributing and being part of the Plascrug school community that won numerous awards recognising its efforts to support biodiversity, positive climate action and outdoor learning 🫶
🔶️ Collaborating with Everyday PLAY on the Woodland Explorers Adventure Club 🪵🪓🏹
🔶️ Getting a place on the Mentera's SBARC Ffynnu programme and exploring new ideas.
And so much more!

2025 wasn't plain sailing either (entrepreneurship rarely is!)! But with every hurdle, came a chance to reflect and learn.

Last night I was fortunate to see a very rare Moonbow (or lunar rainbow) 🌚🌈

In order for one to be seen, a set of very specific conditions have to occur at the same time:
🌚 The moon needs to be near to or at its fullest phase.

🌚 The moon needs to be low in the sky (less than 42°).

🌚 The night sky needs to be very dark (i.e. no light pollution).

🌚 There needs to be rain falling opposite the moon, or another source of water droplets such as a waterfall.

This one was stunning and it lasted for about 20 minutes 🤩

In Wales we are so fortunate to still have so many areas where light pollution is very low.
Light pollution is not just a risk to nature but would also mean that humans would not see rare and stunning spectacles in the sky like this one.

We only have one planet, we need it as much as it needs us.

While outdoor sessions have slowed down (for now!), I have been lucky enough to have been
able to attend the Sbarc Ffynnu (thrive) business support scheme from Mentera with some amazing fellow entrepreneurs in Ceredigion.

It's been a fantastic opportunity to reflect on what natur ni offers, what could be improved on, and a chance to look at what other exciting things might follow next year 😀

There's still a lot more work to be done on the business behind the scenes, but it's somewhat less daunting when you know your fellow entrepreneurs are rooting for you and vice versa 💚🙏 💚

PART2: of "when your usual forest school location is under water!"...

So I needed to before the school pupils arrived.

Our new 'desert island' of higher ground was much smaller than what we normally used.

I re-jigged the layout of the activities and adapted them to fit the space.

I split the group into two and set up the other group with some creative activities (chosen by prior request of the pupils) in the polytunnel.

The result:
🔷️ what started as trepidation from the 5 year olds at the unexpected change in their familiar + safe forest school play space and from the perceived 'peril' of the "rising water"*
(🔷️ led by us modelling flexibility, calm and excitement in response to the new 'desert island' and new way of doing things)
🔷️ quickly turned into thrill and excitement of a new outdoor forest school and play space to explore, with new features to add into their play and discovery.
🔷️ 11 happy, warm and dry, pupils, who got the chance to find new and exciting ingredients for their magic potions and who proudly took home to parents their own magic wands and greenwood gnomes designed and made by their own hands and creativity.
🔷️ PLUS No soggy feet! 🙌🥳

*Their words; the water was only rising in the children's imagination (it was actually slowly receeding)! Natur ni takes safety VERY seriously; all activities are risk-benefit assessed as are the weather conditions.

PART 1: What do you do when your usual forest school area is completely flooded overnight and you have 30 mins to set up before a session?!?

and relocate the whole session to an area that isn't flooded and adapt the activities to fit the space!

All in the days work of a Forest School Leader 😅

Our climate is getting warmer and wetter. Heavier rainfall with unpredictable localised flooding is becoming more frequent. The need for more , and in communities and workforces is real.

For this year's campaign by Gweithredu ar Hinsawdd Cymru / Climate Action Wales natur ni are celebrating the power of local action.

Over the last year, has been working with to connect pupils to their school nature areas through sessions.

At the same time we have had the pleasure of being able to support the PTA, school staff and wider school community to develop their green spaces for and to be more resilient in the face of

Seeing get recognised by winning the 🌍Uniting for Environmental Impact Award 🌍 at the recent was both a proud and exciting moment to pause and appreciate all the hard work that has gone into making their outdoor green areas amazing spaces for biodiversity, pupils and planet.

Da iawn to everyone in the community for this amazing achievement - it is every bit deserved 🥳 and we feel grateful and inspired to have been able to play a part in this local, but impactful journey 💚🙏
