Apical corns occur predominately on toes that are hammered or clawed. If the toe is hammered or clawed then pressure is transferred through the apex of the toe rather than cusioned part underneath the toe.
Remember to always get professional advice from a Foot Health Specialist if you have any concerns regarding your Feet....

An example of an infected corn... Rubbing on the 5th metatarsal caused pressure, which then leads to a callus, continued rubbing has lead to a corn, left untreated the break down of the tissue/ Skin causes an infection.

Very common little toe corns, due to pressure from shoes... rubbing cause a callus, which then turns into a corn.... if left untreated the tissue becomes inflamed causing a burning sensation and in some cases the tissue breaks down allowing infection to take place.
