Dedicated 1:1 live-in carers help elderly parents and vulnerable adults to stay happy and safe in their own home. Mumby’s is a family-owned business run by Ann Mumby – a Registered Nurse with 20 years of experience running a nursing and care agency. Before setting up Mumby’s, Ann ran a branch of one of the major home care providers in Berkshire, it was here that she realised she could provide a better standard of care to her clients through her own care company and Mumby’s was created. Based near Abingdon, Oxfordshire Mumby's serves clients in Bedfordshire, Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Gloucestershire, Hampshire, Herts, Northants, Oxfordshire, Warwickshire, Wiltshire, Surrey and London. As a live-in care specialist, Mumby's provides live-in services on a short or long term basis for the elderly, especially those suffering from Dementia and Alzheimer’s. We also help adults with physical and mental disabilities as well as people needing post-operative care at home and cancer support. Respite care for carers is a popular service. Many clients trust our warm and compassionate carers to take care of their loved ones whilst they take a much-needed break and relax. Mumby's are registered with Care Quality Commission and are rated OUTSTANDING. Maybe you need some help while your family or live-in carer is away, or to recuperate after hospitalisation in your own home. Our trained staff will be on call whenever you need them. We have specialist carers that can provide care to high dependency clients. To make life as simple as possible we offer a fully managed service where we assume all employment responsibilities relating to remuneration, tax, national insurance deductions and DBS checks for our carers and 24/7 on call advice and support. Our live-in care 2-week trial allows you to try our outstanding live-in care and make an informed decision for your loved one without any long-term commitment. You can simply book a free care assessment.

Today is World Mental Health Day, a crucial reminder to prioritise mental well-being for everyone. At Mumby's Live-in Care, we believe that mental health is just as important as physical health.

For our clients, live-in care plays a vital role in keeping minds engaged and spirits lifted. We're incredibly proud that our commitment to fighting loneliness was recognised this year, when we were awarded Highly Commended for Reducing Social Isolation at the Stars of Social Care Awards 2025!
By providing dedicated companionship, encouraging socialisation, and supporting participation in hobbies and community activities, we actively combat loneliness and promote cognitive stimulation, key pillars for maintaining good mental health. Staying in the comfort of their own home, surrounded by familiarity, also significantly reduces anxiety and promotes emotional well-being.

But our commitment extends to our incredible team too! We know that caring for others can be demanding, which is why we aim to create a supportive environment where everyone feels valued, heard, and supported. We believe that by looking after our team's mental health, we empower them to provide the best possible care.

What do you do to prioritise your mental health?

We had a fantastic day at Abingdon Healthfest 2025, meeting local residents, families, and community organisations, all united by one goal: keeping Abingdon happy and healthy!

Our team loved chatting about how live-in care offers a compassionate, flexible alternative to residential homes, allowing older adults to stay independent in the comfort of their own homes.

A huge thank you to everyone who stopped by our stall, shared their stories, or joined our hamper competition (congratulations to our winner, Irene!).

We’re so proud to be part of such a caring community and we can’t wait to see you all again next year!

"I don't want strangers in my home."

That fear is real, and it makes the care conversation one of the most delicate you’ll ever have.
It's important to remember that it is natural for loved ones to resist the idea of care, fearing a loss of control. But what if bringing in support was actually the best way to preserve their independence, dignity, and cherished life at home?

Our new guide acknowledges the common fears (like losing independence or being "institutionalised") and gives you gentle, evidence-based ways to talk about live-in care. Discover why one-to-one support with a familiar carer is often the most independence-preserving choice, protecting their routine, home, and joy.

Today on International Day of Older People, we celebrate the lives and contributions of older generations.
With life expectancy in the UK now around 81, many people are living vibrant lives well into their 80s and 90s. Yet around 1.4 million older people often feel lonely, showing just how vital companionship and support are.
Previous research showed that over 90% of the elderly would prefer to remain in their own homes as they age, and that’s where live-in care makes a real difference. It helps older people stay safe, independent, and connected in the place they know and love most: home.

“Can AI replace care?”
Families often ask this as technology becomes more visible in health & social care.

The answer is simple: AI can support care, but it cannot replace it.

In our latest blog, we explore:
- What “AI in care” really means today
- How tools like fall sensors & pain-detection apps are being used
- The limits of technology and why empathy, judgement & companionship can’t be automated
- How live-in carers can use these tools to enhance safety, dignity & independence

AI can provide alerts and insights, but it takes a dedicated carer to understand the person, act quickly, and provide reassurance in the moment.

Today we’re wishing our lovely Aimee all the very best as she begins her maternity leave.
Aimee has been such an important part of the Mumby’s team, always bringing dedication, warmth, and positivity to her role. While we’ll miss her smiling face around the office, we couldn’t be happier for her as she steps into this exciting new chapter of motherhood.
We can’t wait to meet her baby boy and look forward to welcoming Aimee back when the time is right.

It’s Eye Health Week!

Did you know that 50% of sight loss is avoidable?
If you care for someone, whether a family member, client, or loved one, now is a great time to think about their vision.

To start, try the Eye Health Calculator by Vision Matters and see how your client or loved one is doing. It asks simple questions and gives guidance on risk factors and next steps.
https://www.visionmatters.org.uk/looking-after-your-eyes/eye-health-calculator

If it flags possible concerns, or even as a precaution, consider booking an eye check test for your client. Regular checks can help catch changes early and prevent avoidable sight loss.

Tips for carers:

- Schedule an eye appointment during a less busy week.
- Be present at the appointment (to support or communicate concerns).
- Help with transport, reminders, or explaining the process.
- Encourage them to report any changes: blurriness, trouble reading, glare, etc.
