Oasis eat your heart out! We were up in forces in Manchester this weekend, but for a teaching weekend, which we booked long before Oasis decided to have a concert. Resourceful as ever, McTimoney students snapped up the hotel rooms before the Oasis fans could! Also the sun was out in force, and umbrellas were definitely needed – but only as a sunshade! But despite all the distractions, it was another great teaching weekend for all year groups, including some lectures by the Principal on the history of chiropractic.

Fun in the sun! In a break from studies, students took part in an egg and spoon race at College. But with a serious objective - to improve communication skills! It's jolly hard to guide a blindfolded person holding a (real) egg on a spoon through an obstacle course, when you can't touch them but can only speak to them to try and communicate your instructions. Definitely focuses the mind! But it was still fun.

Summer school in Ireland! An amazing time was had by our clinic year interns for their annual trip to the University of Ulster for the multidisciplinary summer school. Hosted jointly by the University and the McTimoney College, this is an important opportunity for interns to consolidate their learning on other healthcare approaches into on the ground and hands-on interaction with a range of other health professionals. Lots was learned, but as you can imagine, much fun was also had!

We like to think that this is where the magic happens, so it was very exciting that a young lad called Harry wanted to get his ducks in a row and decided to join us and found his way onto the plane. He was very happy to take part in lessons, catch up with staff at the school, enjoy a hearty Irish breakfast, and join with others in the pub for small group work learning. But, like the interns who thoroughly enjoyed the experience, he was pretty tired at the end!

I think it is true to say that we were very happy to have him, and the magic did indeed happen!

Madrid clinic induction! Our final year students have completed their clinic entrance exam and are now in induction week ready to begin their final clinical year! They are very happy to be wearing their white Clinic Intern uniforms and are looking forward to seeing patients in our new clinic premises. The final stage of their journey to become chiropractors - exciting times!

Everyone – I just wanted to take this opportunity to thank you all for your congratulations and kind wishes. I have been overwhelmed by the international impact, and it still feels rather surreal. I am thrilled at the honour that has been bestowed on me, and I will use any influence as a result to open doors that will help the profession as a whole. For those of you who understand how much I like and collect lapel pins, I think the fact that the OBE comes with an exceptionally pretty lapel pin is the icing on the cake for me!

London calling! To top off an exciting week for the College, our Principal, Professor Christina Cunliffe, was presenting at the Integrative and Personalised Medicine conference at the Queen Elizabeth II centre located between Westminster Hall and Westminster Abbey right in the centre of London. This conference is attended by over 2,500 medical professionals and is the premier forum for addressing patient centred care and integration of medicine with other approaches to healthcare. Christina took part in a presentation and panel discussion on how other disciplines, including chiropractic, would approach specific cases and how chiropractic could be integrated better to improve patient outcomes.

In the evening, she was invited to a reception at the House of Commons, which took place on the Terrace overlooking the Thames. This was an amazing opportunity to showcase the status of our profession with some key influencers and decision-makers such as the Surgeon General of the USA, Vivek Murthy, the Head of the Royal Medical Household, Michael Dixon, and Dr Simon Opher MP, Chair of the Health Group and instrumental in introducing Social Prescribing, who hosted the event. But it was also a wonderful occasion during a summer heatwave to wear the OBE pin!

Fun at conference! The McTimoney Chiropractic Association annual conference was brilliantly timed to not only celebrate Christina's OBE, but to provide the perfect opportunity for students who were at college over the weekend to let down their hair and have some real fun with their friends and colleagues. After exams, our students certainly know how to party! And the Principal can also be seen dressed up and joining in with the ‘Saddle Up’ cowboy theme. Thanks are due to the MCA as well as the college for funding this introduction to the profession. We felt that the booking bronco and dart throwing would be helpful towards their psychomotor skills development!

Perfect timing!

Professor Christina Cunliffe attended the annual McTimoney Chiropractic Association conference in Oxford today to receive the congratulations of the profession.

It was a wonderful way to celebrate with friends and colleagues, and to acknowledge the support she had received from the association and the college for each milestone along the way.

Principal Honoured! Our Principal, Professor Christina Cunliffe, has been awarded an OBE in the Kings Birthday Honours list announced today in the London Gazette.

This award is in recognition of her outstanding services to healthcare education, with a 25 year focus on developing chiropractic education in the UK and abroad. She has led the McTimoney College of Chiropractic since 1998, transforming it from a single site institution into a global entity with campuses in Oxfordshire, Manchester, Madrid, Hong Kong and soon to be Northern Ireland. Under her leadership, the McTimoney College has become a beacon for quality education through innovative programmes that train chiropractors for both people and animals, emphasising access to education for working adults.

As well as her Fellowships of both the Royal College of Chiropractors and the Royal Society of Biology, she holds a PhD from the University of Manchester together with being awarded a personal Chair in Chiropractic by the University of Wales in 2010. She was awarded an Honorary Doctorate in Healthcare Leadership by BPP University in 2021. She served on the General Chiropractic Council, its Education Committee and Investigating Committee, and as Treasurer of the Royal College of Chiropractors, and has been involved in the development of the profession for many years.

Professor Cunliffe's OBE is a testament to her unwavering dedication to advancing healthcare education and has significant impact on the chiropractic profession.
