What are your favourite dementia-friendly activities?

We love:

🟑 Reminiscence activities - looking through old photos, listening to favourite songs, or watching classic TV shows can prompt conversation and shared storytelling.

🟑 Group games - simple puzzles and conversation games support cognitive engagement while making it easy for everyone to join in.

🟑 Creative activities - painting, collage and scrapbooking, or simple crafts can be sociable without needing too much verbal interaction.

🟑 Light exercise - chair yoga, tai chi, dancing to music, and gentle walks in a group offer physical and social benefits.

🟑 Everyday tasks - baking, folding laundry, or watering plants can create relaxed opportunities for chatter and companionship.

🟑 Pampering - manicures, pedicures, hand massages, foot spas, hair brushing, and facials can all boost self-esteem and encourage gentle, nurturing 1:1 connection.

Phrases to encourage people with dementia to try activities:

🌞 β€œWould you like to give me a hand with this?”
🌞 "Would you like to join me for a minute?"
🌞 β€œI could use your advice on this photo – what do you think of it?"
🌞 β€œLet’s sit down and do this together for a little while, then have a cup of tea.”
🌞 "I'd love some company while I do this."
🌞 "This reminded me of you, would you like to come and have a look?"
🌞 "I saved you a seat, come and join me when you're ready."

Keep things calm, zero-pressure, and open-minded. If it doesn’t work, try again tomorrow, and always tailor activities to individuals, energy levels, and mood.
