Roshni-2 Project

Roshni-2 Project A Multi Centre study looking at the health and well-being of British Mothers of South Asian origin who have had a child in the last 12 months.

Funded by the National Institute for health research (NIHR) HTA programme. Postnatal depression (PND) is one of the most common causes of disability in women of child bearing age and is associated with adverse outcomes for both the mother and her child. An estimated cost of perinatal mental health problems in the UK is up to £8.1 billion each year. The prevalence of PND in British South Asian (BSA) is higher (17-19%), as compared to indigenous population (15%) and found to be associated with specific socio-economic adversities and cultural and linguistic barriers. Evidence has also indicated ethnic inequalities in the diagnosis, early detection, access, treatment and outcome of mental illnesses. There is strong evidence for the efficacy of psychological treatments for PND, such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), which is recommended as a first line treatment. However, there is a lack of evidence on the use of culturally adapted psychosocial interventions for ethic minority groups and which included a heath economic assessment. ROSHNI-2 is a five year multicentre (five centres) Randomised Controlled Trial (RCT) funded by the National Institute for Health Research, UK. The trial aims to compare a psychosocial intervention for PND, developed specifically for BSA women, called the ‘Positive Health Programme’ (PHP) versus treatment as usual (TAU) and to determine the clinical and cost-effectiveness. The target population is self-ascribed BSA women meeting DSM-5 depression criteria, aged 16 years or above, and having a child up to 12 months of age. The trial aims to recruit 720 participants from GP practices and other community areas across England and Scotland.

🌟 We’d love to hear from you! 🌟

Join us for a friendly feedback session where we’ll share what’s happened with ROSHNI2 since the project ended, and we’d love to hear your thoughts on what should happen next.

🗓 Two sessions to choose from:
📍 14th or 16th July – Pick the date that works best for you!
Sessions will last about an hour and can be held in the language you’re most comfortable with.

We’re especially inviting South Asian mums, dads, wider family members, and anyone who’s experienced any part of the maternity or fertility journey.

If you were involved in ROSHNI2, come hear what your input has helped shape so far.
Even if you’re new to the project – we’d still love to hear from you!

📧 To register, just email or text using the contact details in the poster – we’ll send you a confirmation and joining info.
📞 Prefer a 1-to-1 chat instead? That’s absolutely fine too – just let us know and we will arrange this.

You will be reimbursed for your time appropriately.

Let’s make sure our work continues to be guided by the people it matters to most – you.

I would hugely appreciate if you can take just a few minutes out of your day to complete this quick survey exploring loneliness in the UK.

You don't need to enter any personal details at the end as this is optional. The postcode is collected simply to create heat maps for loneliness and isolation so we can develop more work to target this.

Many thanks for your support of valuable research and please do share with all your contacts.
