Plenty to be thankful for on GrOwING WILD.
Gathering fruits for a hedgerow compote....with fresh stevia instead of sugar.
Apple, rosehip, Hawthorn, elderberry, blackberry, damson, cherry plum, stevia.

Scything with the guidance and knowledge of the wonderful Steve Tomlin.
Lots of concentration paid off with some great scything skills and plenty of grass cut and no power tool noise.... even the Common Blue stayed close enjoying the lesser Trefoil flower when the sun shone.
Thank you to everyone for their good work today.

We think we've done a good job .... there's always so much more to be done but that's 5 acres for you !

When you notice the allotment fence has been damaged and then notice that apples have been taken...so double whammy damage and a bit of stealing to boot...very sad 😔 😟 🙁 😥 😞

Plant, Pollinators, People, Places part 15.
We took a walk around the lower wildspace and noticed 2 trees bursting with fruit (never seen this fruit in the past 12 years ???).
Seems we have 2 Cherry Plum trees .... no idea why we have never seen them before but a nice find :-).
Was lovely to have the company and help of Carol and Alison. We potted up the last of the wildflower seedlings which will be planted after the final / annual scything and cut back on the 27th of August - our final Event for this project (see Event listing for details).

Chris Atherton is a fountain of knowledge of growing, caring and learning about nature.
He's also brilliant on the hard work involved in simply keeping the 5 acres of GrOwING WILD accessible...strimming marathon !
