Plant, Pollinators, People, Places part 14 was a good day for some time out to survey the butterflies and spend some time looking closely at nature - Sarah and Clark did just this and took some great photographs.
At the same time Chris and Kate did a bit of conservation work - cutting back brambles that can encroach on the acid grass where wild flower Devil's Bit Scabious is doing well. On 5 acres we do what we can to manage the Himalayan Balsam - Kate and Chris did their bit - but if anyone wants to help out - we'll be pulling up more on our next session in a fortnight (see Events listing for details).
We still have spaces on our Scything Workshop too - so of anyone wants to learn the gentle art of scything a meadow message us (see Events listing for more details).
Austrian Scythes are brilliant for meadow cuts and a great tool for clearing areas of doc, nettles, thistles etc. Plus it's a great way to get a bit of gentle exercise in without the aches from using a strimmer.
Get in touch if you want to find out more about volunteering with GrOwING WILD or just come along to one of our last 2 sessions of Plants, Pollinators, People, Places and find out more about this 5 acres of Wild space in Baxenden.

What an inspirational and educational visit we had at The Gathering Fields Flower Essences, Retreats and Apothecary
Thankyou Helen Leece for letting us visit - sharing your journey and knowledge on creating an abundant Wildflower meadow in beautiful Bowland.
Helen's passion and love for nature shone through. The beautiful treasure and legacy she inheretited from her grandmother's wildflower book and notes that evolved through Helen's efforts to create Brenda's meadow is such a lovely story.
Helen's hard work and values are truly inspirational.
We will take her gifted plants, knowledge and inspiration back to GrOwING WILD and our wildflower meadow. ❤️ 💚

⏰ 6pm – 8pm
📍 Meeting Point: Bullough Park, Accrington, BB5 OLW

👋 Everyone is welcome! (Under 18s must be accompanied by an adult.)

👉 BOOKING: Please contact Project Officer Helen if you wish to join us, so we can prepare enough pizza dough for everyone! Email helen.earnshaw@prospectsfoundation.org.uk

✨ Important Accessibility Info:
Please be aware there’s a short walk from the car park, including some uneven paths and steps. Access to the allotment is tricky – the entrance path is steep and overgrown. We recommend sturdy footwear and clothes that won’t snag. Unfortunately, if you have difficulties with balance or mobility, this session may not be suitable.
