Another really lovely Christmas get-together. It's such a lovely feeling seeing so many people gathering together sharing conversation, laughter and of course, a very tasty Cream Tea. Thanks to FoRP for everything they do - the majority of people gathered today did not know each other before meeting at classes. Its a joy to see and a moment to cherish 🥰

✨ Another Festive Get‑Together at Rhyddings! ✨

This afternoon brought another wonderful festive gathering as our annual QiGong event was extended – and some of our Zen Yoga friends came along too. We were absolutely full to capacity, which is always a good to see.

This afternoon’s Rhyddings Cream Teas were filled with chatter, laughter and friendship… plus a bit of football on the mobile for a couple of the chaps, of course!

A huge thank you to our Café Team – Ann, Lewis & Eleanor – for keeping everything running smoothly.

And before we left, the Coach House was fully set up and sparkling, ready for the Big Man’s visit tomorrow. The excitement is definitely building… we’re all a bit giddy!

For anyone curious about joining in, Bernie’s classes run throughout the week:

Monday: 1.30pm Zen Yoga, 3pm QiGong

Tuesday: 7.30pm Men on Mats

Wednesday: 7.30pm Zen Yoga

Thursday: 11am, 6.15pm & 7.30pm Zen Yoga

Saturday: 10am & 11.15am QiGong

Just a thought - to me this looks like it was filmed during the 50'/60's, so if it was known all those years ago, how did I not discover it until I studied for yoga teacher training 🤔

My Yoga Journey

I first started to practice yoga to ‘clear my mind’ and was astounded as to how much better I felt after each class. My career was working in a nursery school and as I practiced yoga myself I was given the opportunity to train to teach yoga to children. When I returned to nursery and introduced yoga to the children I was amazed how well they engaged. The feedback from parents and the children was very positive.

I reduced my working hours in nursery and enhanced my yoga training. Baby Yoga and Children’s, Family and Community Yoga were my first independent courses. A period of time later, I further enhanced my training to include Special Yoga for children with special needs and disabilities (therapeutic yoga). I was really enjoying my new career and loved each class that I took and found that I was repeatedly being asked by the parents if I did any classes for adults. I hadn’t ever intended to teach yoga to adults, as my experiences were with children, but as time continued with so many more asking for adult classes that I decided to look into it further. This was a big decision for me! I tried a distance course (200 hours), with monthly sessions followed with assignments at home, but after 12 month’s this was not working out well with my schedule and felt that I had to leave.

The Om Yoga Show in Manchester was where I finally made my decision as to which training was the one for me. I researched many different courses before I came to my final decision which was to train at a retreat centre in Dublin with a Buddhist monk from Zenways, and I have not regretted this decision. Since this, I have continued to develop my practice adding to my Qigong training too.

Over my many years of practicing yoga I met many people who said that they had tried yoga once, they didn’t return as they weren’t flexible enough (or similar reasons). I wanted to encourage all people to have the opportunity to enjoy the benefits of yoga so I have a focus on my classes having the beginner in mind. My classes encourage to practice with kindness, awareness, alignment and mindfulness. This flows from my Zen Yoga classes, but is also a part of all of my classes. I offer a range of yoga sessions for all ages and abilities, in open classes (open to the public) and in closed groups e.g. Guiding groups, schools (teachers/students), holiday clubs, parent support groups, community social groups etc. I take yoga to the group in their own setting! I also work with people 1-1 in the home environment, for those who prefer the comfort of their own home to attending a class. I am now involved in a range of community classes at Rhyddings Park Coach House - please see above for more details. If you would like further details please contact me at yogawithbernie@gmail.com
