LORD MAYOR VISITS Shelton Care Group

We were so proud to welcome the Lord Mayor of Stoke-on-Trent to our Regent Road and Networks Day Service last week. He visited to meet some of the people we support, the team and discuss everything social care.

We also presented him with some beautiful artwork created by Links Day Service to celebrate the Stoke-on-Trent Centenary.

WE'RE AN AWARDS FINALIST 🙌🏆

We're so excited to share that National Care Group is a FINALIST in the 'Excellence in Specialist Care' category at this year's LaingBuisson Awards! 🥳

The LaingBuisson Awards celebrate organisations that set standards of excellence in their sectors. The 'Excellence in Specialist Care' category recognises specialist care for adults with physical and learning disabilities, or mental health needs in a residential setting.

Winners will be revealed during a sparkling award ceremony in London on 20 November. Wish us luck 🤞

8 ACRES OUTSTANDING ORCHARD 🌳

To celebrate achieving an upgraded CQC rating of 'Good', including 'Outstanding' for being caring, a new orchard complete with 18 new trees has been created at 8 Acres, in Norfolk, with a tree planted for every supported person 🌳💫

The official opening of the '8 Acres Outstanding Orchard' took place during a co-produced celebratory event this week. Jamie, a person supported by 8 Acres, and his mum proudly cut the ribbon to mark its opening 🙌

MAKATON INTERNATIONAL AWARENESS DAY 🎉🤘🏻🧑🏾‍🤝‍🧑🏻

We are joining in the celebration of the incredible power of Makaton and the importance of inclusive communication, in support of raising awareness about the great work of The Makaton Charity.

Here's Links Day Service, in Stoke-on-Trent, practising letters and taking part in Makaton worksheets today, to learn and develop their skills and awareness 🫶

Congratulations to National Care Group colleagues, Suzanne and Lexie, who today completed Oral Health Champion training in Worcester 🦷

They will now be getting their teeth stuck into supporting other colleagues to champion good oral health 😁

Well done to the 6 Care Homes that attended their Oral Health Champion Training today.

This training helped staff to:

🦷Understand why good oral health is important.

🦷Have an awareness of the improving oral health NICE guidance and CQC requirements for care homes.

🦷Understand the causes of dental diseases and how to prevent them.

🦷Increase their confidence in carrying out a mouth care assessment on a resident.

🦷Support residents with their daily mouth care.

RECYCLING CHAMPION, STEPHEN ♻️

Meet recycling champion Stephen! 👋 We're shining a spotlight on his dedication to recycling, resulting in significant amounts of metals being saved from landfill 👏

Stephen has been volunteering at Go Green in Kidderminster for many years. He gets involved in all aspects of recycling, from collecting cans and sorting and crushing them through to light assembly work. He has even been named Volunteer of the Year! 🥳🏆

Since 2014, when he started attending, he has helped Go Green recycle 22,000kg of aluminium. That's the equivalent of two double-decker buses! 🚌🚌
